@creekland, that newbie is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Do you have more foal pictures for us?

I was sitting on my front porch reading last week, when something flew by and I noticed it out of the corner of my eye hovering by my plant. A lot of bees like to pollinate there so I initially paid no attention but something about the motion was distracting so I glanced over. I’m so glad I had my phone sitting right next to me so I managed to catch this hummingbird before it flew away. I didn’t have a chance to zoom in for a closer look. Sorry the picture isn’t better quality. And please ignore my gross railing - we are replacing the whole porch.

I have a few photos, but mostly I took some videos to send to her future owners and I can’t figure out how to put videos on here. I know I did it before, but my brain is getting older and forgetful…

Still, here’s a couple:

Wow! Amazing photos!

I especially loved the sunflower and bee photo :slightly_smiling_face:

This was after sunset last night when the ponies went out to pasture. The phone took kinda eerie pics, but I’ll admit I think I like them. Gemma is shedding out a bit of her foal coat, and in general, is enjoying stretching her legs.

After a run, a quick nap is needed!

None of them like being out in the heat of the day with all the flies, etc, so they go out overnight and stay in the barn in the daytime.

Wow, thanks for this description. This would be a dream trip for me so it was fun to travel along with you, and see the pictures. I took a few notes although it would likely be 5+ years before we would go and who knows what Amtrak travel will be like then. With 3 sons who are Eagle Scouts I’m sorry you had a bad experience. They’ve been to the camp in New Mexico - Philmont - but their troop flew and I hope they were more courteous on the plane. I hope the Boy Scouts who helped rescue passengers on the Amtrak that derailed at the end of June can counter the reputation from the ones you encountered.

Gemma looks nice and lively! I’m sure her prospective owners are thrilled with these photos.

She should make a fantastic show pony just like her siblings before her - hence - an easy sale.

I like watching youngsters being able to be free and playing, like toddlers in their innocence and curiosity.

We feel certain (as did the Amtrak staff we were talking about it with) that the problem was the chaperones leaving them by themselves. I know working in a high school, that teen brains are not always the most thoughtful. The worst thing for the Boy Scouts as an organization is these were wearing their uniforms… it could have been similar if they had been any other group.

I actually have no doubt that if our train had run into problems the kids would have jumped to help others too. Fortunately, that’s also a common human trait, and being youngsters, they’d have had the ability to help others in/out etc.

I captured this when I went out for a walk with my 18 months old granddaughter.

Sunset here was spectacular this evening, though the camera just can’t catch what the eye can see - not my camera anyway.

First I concentrated on the ponies:

Then I tried to get it to focus on the sky:

Neither really caught the brilliant reds with still being able to see the ponies enjoying the evening, but I tried, so for a grade I suppose it’s a C?

A silly photo—there is a grapevine wreath hanging in a window, and the sun was shining through just right, and my head was in the right place----ANTLER DAD!!!

Does your camera have a HDR (high dynamic range) setting? Many cameras and some phones support this. It quickly takes several pictures with different exposures (you need to hold it really still or use a tripod) and then merges them.

It might. I’d have to play with it. It’s the new Samsung, but not the highest model of it. I know the highest model had all the bells and whistles, but I didn’t care to pay for those when I could get this one for $550 and it works well enough for my needs.

Alternative being “HORNY DAD”?

Great Prince of the Forest!

My first thought was Viking.
