What do you make with your beautiful bounty?!
Are you going to make hot sauce or salsa?
I make several hot pepper jams (peach/habenaro, raspberry jalapeño, and ghost pepper jam). I have a friend who owns a retail store (it’s a small town general store with a little bit of everything) and she will sell it for me. Also, I make hot sauces. I’m still working on the best way to bottle it.
Yes–hot sauce. Working on the best way to bottle hot sauce.
We’ve spent most of the summer renovating the lower level of our cabin from empty tiled space to additional bed and bath. Here are before and after pics, first from the listing photos as we inherited the space (note the awful suspended ceiling with missing tiles, the ancient black wood stove, and the dirty white tile), second as it now looks after setting up the bed area last night:
We’re especially happy with how the bath turned out as we found an unfinished kitchen cabinet at Home Depot that exactly (!) fit into the alcove between the shower and the wall, so we ended up with a closet/cabinet instead of just open shelving as we’d originally planned:
This project has taken up our entire summer as we grossly underestimated the effort involved (mostly on our plumber’s part). DH and I did the rest. We’re both getting too old for this, but we love the result, and now we have a private apartment for guests separate from the activity upstairs.
Next summer’s project is the stairs. DH plans to finish them out similar to the pic on the bottom. At least he will be able to do this project himself and at his leisure so it won’t interfere with having fun next summer.
Love what you’ve done so far, and I like the plan for the stairs. Has the plumber done the prep work for it?
Where were you? Everyone is asking this question today…
I live in So Cal - I was heading to a meeting at work, our company was in the process of being invested into by “angels” - I was national revenue manager so I needed to be there to discuss numbers. I was woken by my mom who called “turn on the TV” - I couldn’t comprehend what I was seeing as I was getting ready for work. I made my daughter stay home from school. I was really afraid that our entire country was going to be attacked. A few minutes before I left home the first tower fell. As I walked out the door I said “everybody in the US is going to know someone, or be within a degree or two of separation of knowing someone who perished in that building” When I got to work I learned that the 2 (young family men) “angels” coming from Boston on United Airlines Flight 175 were hijacked and crashed into the second tower. I never thought my own words would ever ring so true. May their memories be for a blessing - I’ve gone to the 9/11 Memorial and fountains 5 times - I took this photo the first time, 2 weeks after it opened. Hug your loved ones.
You might want to post photos and reminiscences on the Never Forget thread.
It will be a dry bar as there are two sinks (bath and utility) within feet of this space. DH can do the electrical himself. It won’t have the wine rack either as we don’t need it. That area will open to the other side to be used as storage space in DH’s office that will be built out behind the dry bar.
What an improvement! Love it!
Thanks for sharing this photo and your thoughts…… I’m fine with you posting it here.
Thank you - I posted in both places. It felt important.
I’ve been to Kew Gardens many times over 25 years but never been to this Pagoda, so here is a picture of a pagoda where I was sitting down and rest. I didn’t pay £4.5 to go inside.
Man first but after staring I can see dog
I see both quite equally, from the start - no staring required to see the other one. Neat photo, but I wonder if it was photoshopped to get it the way it is.
Immediately saw a dog. If that’s a man, what is wrong with his left foot?
