Physical fitness test?

What are the physical testing benchmarks you need to reach? Like 1.5 mile run, pullups, push-ups, etc...

Thanks

I don't really have the scoring table handy, but you should be able to find it online somewhere. CGA's Physical Fitness Exam (PFE) consists of cadence push ups (up on second 1, down after 2 seconds, up after 3 etc), as many sit ups as you can do in 2 minutes, and then a 1.5 mile run. Shoot for <10:00 1.5 mile and >30 pushups and >40 or 50 situps and you'll probably be good to go.

ZO what you doing up so late? ha ha :D

From the instructions/score sheet:

*All cadets at the Coast Guard Academy are required to pass the PFE at the beginning of each semester. Any cadet who scores below 155 points is recommended for dis-enrollment. There is not a prescribed minimum performance for each individual event on the PFE; only total scores are assessed.

285-300 Max Club
258-284 A
222-257 B
200-221 C
155-199 D
0-154 F

New cadets take the PFE during the first week of Swab Summer. Cadets who score less than 130 points on this first test are normally dis-enrolled. Those cadets who initially score between 130-154 points are assigned to a remedial physical fitness program. Remedial cadets unable to score at least 155 points by the end of the first academic semester are normally dis-enrolled.

Consequently, an applicant who cannot attain a score of at least 130 points will not receive a full appointment. This standard may be raised based on the competitiveness of the applicant pool and the needs of the Coast Guard.*

Using zachogden's minimum numbers, (30 pushups, 40 situps, and a 10:00 1.5 mile run) your score would be 167 (Grade D), which although would be high enough for an appointment (130 minimum) would be just above the dis-enrollment number of 155.

A perfect 300 score would require 60 cadence pushups (2 minutes), 100 situps (2 minutes), and a sub 8:04 1.5 mile run.

What about pullups? Do you get tested on them?

No, the USCGA PFE consists of cadence push ups, situps, and a 1.5 mile run.

More info, as well as the instructions and score sheet, can be found here:

:cool:

PS - That "155" minimum I referred to above has been increased to 165 for 2012 and beyond.

Thanks

The hardest thing I might have problems with is the 1.5 mile run. I run the mile in about 7:30, but it's been awhile since I've tested myself. But I've got time and my goal is to get my 1 mile down to 6:30 and I better start testing myself on the 1.5 mile then.

If I fail the 1.5 mile, by say running an 11:00 minute 1.5, do I lose points from the running part, and have to rely heavily on push ups and situps or do I fail the test all together?

Thanks

"There is not a prescribed minimum performance for each individual event on the PFE; only total scores are assessed."
(Page 2, CADET PFE STANDARDS)

Running the 1.5 mile in 11:00 doesn't "fail" you, it only scores a lesser number of points (51 to be exact) for that part of the test. You can make it up by exceeding in the other sections.

Males are scored on the mile run up to 15:14 (1 point) - anything over 15:15 is a zero for that section.

Did you take a look at the scoring tables?

PS - The "mean" scores for the Class of 2012 for each event were:

Pushups = 38 (72 points)
Situps = 76 (76 points)
1.5 Mile Run = 10:10 (61 points)

for a total PFE score of 209 (Grade C).
