USMMA already becoming a sailor! ;) GO NAVY! Your academy surely won't deem your star as offensive and I do not believe it will show per their regulations. BUT Guess what you don't know really CAN hurt you though. Hope every kid reads this and finds they shouldn't be doing any alterations to their bodies at this point. Seems USNA is more strict with this rule.
*Not too worried about my son any longer. 2 minutes: 84 push-ups, 64 sit-ups, 8 pull ups. Just wished he would have shared that before I got all spazed out about it. And no, I didn't ask him. I saw him do it yesterday. Don't know his time on the mile & 1/2. Not askin'! Let him just stay his ol' closed mouthed self and make me a worry-wart. Maybe I'll just not tell him where the Oreos are hidden!

Try this link to find the "cadre" shirts on the "instructors".

They are only imprinted on the t shirts the cadre wear for PEP.

I went to USNASS last summer and, when we were doing the swimming portion of the mock Sea Trials, I noticed that one of the midshipman squad leaders had lots of tattoos. He had like 3-4 on his back & chest, big ones, too, if I remember correctly. They weren't offensive at all, but they were definitely visible in "swim gear". I think you have to have your tats waived, but not too sure.

He'll have to spend his money and have them removed by his 2nd class year.

the academy picks up the tab nowadays. I have one on my forearm I have to get removed (not offensive, but officers can't have tattoos visible in shortsleves). I've already had to begin arranging to have it removed. They have laser surgery stuff at hospital point. I think this is new within the past 5 years or so. But it does have to be gone by second class year.

Well that certainly makes more sense to do it at the Academy, but what a pain. I guess if you're even contemplating going to to USNA, it's probably better not to get a tattoo in the first place

Saw it. That's really strange. Can a current mid tell me whether the white shirts that the upperclassmen wear during plebe summer (with the class crest logos on them) still read "Plebe Summer Detail," or is it now "Plebe Summer Cadre," or even something altogether different?

DeepThroat

DT, I think I know what you are talking about. This past year's "Cadre" shirts did not have "Plebe Summer Detail" below the class crest. Most cadre in our company gave us theirs.

Good luck to all plebes-to-be. Enjoy the last few days.

Thanks Jadler:
My daughter is in the final "lazy days" stage as we are going on vacation on our way to Annapolis. Leaving THursday. !!! It is definitely a bittsweet trip since I will be counting down the days until I don't get to see her anymore and I'm sure she will be somewhat anxious about the whole thing. Thanks for all your information and postings last year. It helps give an idea of what to expect in the upcoming year. Safe travels to all over the next couple weeks as we make the journey to Annapolis. Kids; enjoy your last couple weeks of fun. :)

It is my pleasure. Please keep me updated on how your child is doing during the summer -- via email (jadler989901@aol.com) because I will be on a Destroyer, starting next week, followed by sailing.

Tips: The main thing that helped me through the summer (I thought of it as more annoying than hard) was to look at a target date/event every week (for me that was Friday night and Sunday mornings) and I would aim for these days one week at a time. Additionally, I would always remember the bigger picture and realize what PS was for. Also, use your friends and sometimes LAUGH at yourself. I had to sing "Put it on me" or something like that by jarule one night at evening meal...it was somewhat embarassing (especially because I can't sing) but also it is something to laugh at and admit that you can only do it once. Also it is only slightly over 6 weeks, which the first 3.5 is harder than the 2nd half...the clock cannot stop! PS will test your son/daughter's committment...if this is something they want, PS shouldn't be a huge deal.

My best wishes. Keep me updated!
Honor, Courage, COMMITTMENT!

Someone at our parents' club told us this little gem
Cadre...they can't kill you and they can't stop time!!

DT,

I stand corrected. I found one Cadre shirt from this year that did have "Plebe Summer Detail" on it. It was on the white version, but the dark blue (CC's and above) and grey (CXO and below) did not have that title on them.

So I guess half/half.

Jadler,

So, did you guys refer to the upperclassmen as "the cadre" or "the detailers?" I guess that's my ultimate question. When I was there, "cadre" was simply not in our vocabularies.

DeepThroat

When we were in our rooms and alone...it was a mix of both cadre/detailers or just their names, but the official term was "cadre"...even our cadre made fun of their new name and just said it was another way PS was getting easier. However, obviously, out of our rooms it was sir/ma'am sandwiches and their rank...that probably hasn't changed...i.e. ("sir, good afternoon MIDN ENS Papadopolus sir!")

I haven't done a single work out all summer. I hope pt during plebe summer won't hurt

did you go to summer seminar?

--it will--

no, plebe summer's starts in 6 days of me though.

Aren't you a Marine though? If so, won't you kick everyone's you know what anyway?

No, i'm not a marine. I'm prior enlisted NAvy though and I went to NAPS.

The reason these appointees were turned away was that they had acquire their tattoos AFTER they had had their physicals and therefore had undocumented tattoos. One young lady got a tattoo that looked like barbed wire encircling her ankle. I don't know if they were allowed to reapply, but they were definitely turned away on I-Day. It's just not worth it if your ambition is to be a Midshipman at the Naval Academy. Even the tattoos you already have will have to be removed if they are visible in swim gear.
