My school offers an AP Physics 1 class, but it’s really split into first semester, Physics 1 and second semester, Physics 2. I’m currently in that class, but plan on taking AP Physics C next year.
Is it necessary for me to take the Physics 2 exam? Or will Physics C cover the credit I’d get anyway, since I’ve seen colleges take Physics 1 and 2 or C for credit?
Thanks in advance
1 and 2 are different aspects of physics. You only need some introduction to Physics to make it in physics C.
So physics 1+ calculus AB junior year would be perfect preparation for a strong STEM student who wants to be ready or physics C.
If, by Physics C, you mean both parts - mechanics and E&M - a college will generally limit credit to 2 of the 4 physics tests.
Concurrent enrollment in calculus, plus a previous physics course, is all that is needed for AP Physics C. While Physics C uses calculus.usually the calc topics needed in physics would have been covered in the calc class. For those schools that allow concurrent calc enrollment (and they are the majority), the physics teacher will teach any calc topics needed if not already covered by the math teacher.
