Hello,
I have a daughter who is currently looking at JHU and we were wondering if anyone has insight into the physics and astronomy or biophysics programs. How would they compare to other schools? Are the professors well liked? Would you recommend it to someone interested in these subjects?
I know being in the Hopkins thread there will be inherent bias, but we are just looking for honest thoughts and opinions.
Thank you
I believe that both those departments are tops at JHU. In astronomy, the faculty includes a Nobel Laureate. In recent years, the faculty has added professors who are leaders in current research. Work at JHU-APL and with neighboring NASA facility is awesome. In biophysics, not only are facilities amazing, but numerous courses include cutting edge work in the overlap of bio and physics. At some schools, biophysics majors just take bio and physics and maybe one or two courses that teach true biophysics. In both of those fields, the ongoing research is at the leading edge. If your daughter is interested, she can read descriptions of current research.
