Physics class for Pre-med students?

I'm a little confused on which physics class is necessary to take. I know it's either one of the following sequences:

PHY 302K, 102M (lab) AND PHY 302L, 102N (lab) – General Physics

OR

PHY 317K, 117M (lab) AND PHY 317L, 117N (lab) – General Physics I & II

I thought you could do either sequence of Physics classes, but now I'm being told that I HAVE to do the second sequence since I'm pre-med. Which is the right onee?

Thanks in advance!

You can take the 302 sequence, unless they changed something in a new catalog. HPO recommends the 317 sequence but a lot of people actually go the 302 route since it requires one less semester of calculus.

Or you can take 303K and L. Calculus isn’t that bad, lol.

haha At UT it is. And from what my advisor and several other people have said, the few things from the calc II based physics you’ll learn in an MCAT prep class

Is there any advantage to premed students taking PHY 301, the course for physics majors? Is this class more difficult than the premed version?

sundoll - Yeah, I know physics at UT really sucks, especially the calc based ones. You only really need basic physics for the MCAT anyways.

texasgirlut - No. There will only be basic physics (no calc based) on the MCAT. No point in taking Mechanics, which I think is a ridiculous class lol. So yeah, it’s wayyy wayyy more intense and difficult than 302 or 317.

Is Mechanics really hard? What are the main differences between the four basic physics sequences, and who should take each one?
