Piano performance major at NW and CMU

Any insights into the quality of piano performance major in these two schools?
Also would like to know piano performance opportunities at Yale.

Thanks

Yale does not have a piano performance degree for undergrad, as you probably know. It is a BA degree, with quite a few distribution requirements. The School of Music is a grad school. Undergrads often study with grad students but if exceptionally talented, you might be able to have lessons with a SOM professor.

I know of a few undergrads who studied in the School of Music at Yale, but they did not receive a degree. It was a 3-year certificate. Some transferred to other conservatories (e.g., Curtis) after the 3 years. My daughter has a former student (her most-talented-ever student) who chose to go to Yale this year. To give a sense of his level, he was also accepted to the major conservatories he applied to for dual programs, but Yale was his top choice for academic reasons. Right now he’s studying, in college, with a young woman my daughter’s age (mid-twenties) whom she knows as a peer/colleague/former classmate. The new teacher is, of course, a grad student. She’s very good and it’s fine, but not really a step-up as a teacher in his case. (This is instrumental, but not piano, so YMMV.)
