Hi, you're talking to a bunch of MIT students here, so when you say:

"I live in state that has the most attractive people in the US"

we say:

"Give me data, please."

Also, if you're going to start by bashing people's looks you could at least keep it there instead of progressing to saying you think they have no morals or values. That's a little harsh for judging people you don't even know just because you happen to have a different viewpoint than they do.

well if you bring up looks, im going to say my opinon im sry. I don't feel like i have to objectify everything i say. I judge by what i see, and by what I see is some sad attempt to make something hot and vulgar that initially really isn't.

"I remember all too well what it was like to stumble on some random internet site where high school kids were discussing the physical attractiveness of me and my friends. It's not a nice feeling."

I don't see how that's anything more than your problem. If you're willing to post pictures of yourself on the internet at least be ready for the reactions of others, especially if people willingly bring it up on a public online forum. Personally, had I known that the girls in the calender were posting on this forum, I would have refrained from such remarks of jest.
Sure, it's my problem, but I don't think it's too much to ask for posters in this forum to have a little common decency and respect for other people. You never do know who's posting on this forum, or who's lurking, so I think it's prudent to act at all times like the entire world is reading what you write.

In my case, it was really horrifying to see myself and my friends discussed so negatively, because none of us had actively put our photos on the internet -- the photos people were looking at were group pictures taken of us after a cheerleading competition.

We're fundamentally nice people at MIT. I don't think it's out of the question for me to ask prospective MIT students to abide by standards of politeness and regard for others that I'd expect to see followed in the MIT community.

I personally prefer hamantaschen because of those tasty extra syllables. GO TEAM!

girlfriend, in post number 7 of this thread it was YOU who first brought up looks. The high ground here belongs, once again, to the MIT ladies. Oh, and the answer is: LATKES. Period.

People can come up with statistics to prove anything. 14% of people know that.

actually it was that mom person who said those calender girls look nice. I just replied with my opinon. Im sorry that im a person with thoughts and opinons.

I can't give you quanitative data but i can give you qualitative data...just come down and look for yourself.

Mollie: I admire your integrity for respect on public boards, but I think its important to hear opinons and express what we feel. Im not saying its ok to say things like "im glad i applied to vandy and wherever", but every comment doesn't need to be jolly and wholesome.

Have you noticed how everyone is attacking the negative comments and not acknowledging the postitive ones? I hate how people intentionally subconsciously search for negativity.

I hate how people use "hate" in such a casual manner.

Sure, but there's a difference between "not being jolly" and mockig people's looks, which is both cruel and petty. Also, in general, you're right- we need to hear everyone's opinions. But is it really necessary when the opinion we're talking about is "hot or not"? I mean come on. There are other websites for that, and I'll go out on a limb and say you probably don't approve of those anyway (based on your previous comments about modesty/decency/etc). I clearly can't tell anyone what to do, but I'm going to go ahead and express my own opinion that this kind of conversation (about how attractive people are) is petty, immature, and offensive (in the form it usually comes up here, anyway) and doesn't belong here.

It is in my opinion that some people's opinions should be kept to themselves.

right on! express yourself, im going to go out for the night instead of refreshing my CC page all night. bye

ahh yes. life is either one or the other.

wait... but where does homework fit into all of this?! good thing you don't go to MIT... but hmm...

I like to work hard but play harder : )
