I would like to know if anyone has been invited to apply with Pitt Prestige and has been accepted. I have been offered this and it seems almost too easy. Thanks

I applied through Pitt Prestige over Thanksgiving break and received my acceptance letter today for both the undergrad and honors college. HOWEVER, I am very concerned about my chances for merit scholarships since the Prestige app was so watered down. I will probably mail an additional essay or two and a CV to ensure that I will be considered. That being said, the Prestige app was a nice break from the stress of college apps :)

hi, i have never heard of Pitt Prestige. Could you please give me a brief explanation of what it is and maybe where I can get more information. thanks

This is a little of the topic… but I applied October 20th and haven’t received any scholarship information yet… I did get guaranteed admission into one of the graduate programs though. Does this mean I probably won’t be receiving any scholarships?

In received the Pitt Prestige offer in the mail, unsolicited. Offered very streamlined application, with a limited application, transcript request, app fee with guaranteed answer in 2 weeks.

The scholarship committee only meets once a week starting AFTER acceptances have already been made. Depending on the strength of your application, it could spend weeks in the pile before even being looked at or considered. I know in prior years some people didn’t hear back until March-ish. If you have a guaranteed grad-program, I would think your chances are better. Scholarships will also vary by major (SSOE gives out a lot more scholarships because of alumni donations than say A&S).

Please note that the Pitt Prestige is NOT what they promised. They now want mid year grades and suggest letters of rec and essay. This is not what they promised. Seems like they are trying for more applicants based on SAT only but if GPA isn’t stellar you are just in the app pool. Very disappointing.

Sorry about your experience, Scott. :(

Appreciate it. As I have been accepted to 3 schools already this is not something I was counting on but I wanted to make others aware before they follow through.

@ScottG did they request the additional material just for the UG admission or for scholarships?

Additional info for admission decision.

My S had a similar experience and received the same type of response:
Forward your essay, recs, mid term grades, AND a retake of the ACT/SAT! This is outrageous! Why would he re-take the ACT again if that’s what put him on the radar in the first place? ( the requests seemed fairly personalized perhaps , hopefully, it was a generic request). I find this prestige application a form of false advertising and dishonest! They clearly stated an answer in two weeks! That means rejection or acceptance! There was no indication that they reserve the right to defer and ask for more! They are, to say the least, falsely representing their promise and charging you for it! Totally unacceptable and not very nice!

Oura54 I agree 100%!! They’re fishing for applicants and are completely disingenuous. What does that say about the school in general? Did your son choose a major, I did engineering. Not even sure if we’ll proceed with app but they already got $40.

I thought they waived the application fee for the “prestige” application? It is a new application since we never heard of it prior to this year.

So you would prefer the school just deny you admission outright versus giving you a chance to send in additional stuff so they can accept you?

From what someone said elsewhere on CC, apparently the Prestige Application offer was automatically sent to students who met a certain cut-off using a collegeboard email listerv. So, no, it wasn’t a personal invite. It could have been the GPA that put him on the radar (some people have great GPAs and not so great test scores, so Pitt asks for them to retest, perhaps that happened with your son?)

The hook on the unsolicited “Prestige” application was a streamlined process with a decision in 2 weeks. I forwarded the info they requested. They did not request rec letters, essay, etc, just scores and transcripts. With 2 clicks on my mouse they would have been forwarded. It’s not a question of sending info, it’s the misleading aspect of the offer. In fact, my letters and essay are excellent and will most likely lead to my acceptance.

…and the fee was not waived.

Scott, I feel your pain. False advertising is painful. I think there must be some type of misunderstanding… the fee has to be waived, Why else would they off such a service. Are you sure it is even legitimate? Other students have said their fees were waived.

It was legit for sure. Not in pain, just p.o.'d of wasted time. Pitt at best #4 on my list.

I was worried about the same thing too when I got accepted, and was going to call to ask whether I should send additional materials to help in merit decisions, but received notification of a full-tuition scholarship about a week after my admission decision. Of course, feel free to send additional materials if you want too, but don’t worry too much! Good luck! :)
