pitt vs penn state vs temple... would pennsylvania public school would you go to?

and why?!?!?!?

Penn State: they are all decent schools but penn state has the best partys from what i hear

pitt
penn state is too rural

Pitt or PSU

:)

Not Temple. I heard the neighborhood is really really rough around it.

On campus at Temple is safe, and the school has made tonnns of strides in improving its facilities, safety, and reputation. The average sat at TU has risen over 100 points I belive in the past 2-3 years, and the university has recently built a state of the art student center. Twenty kids from my high school went there last year and they absolutely love it.

In terms of prestigue, Penn State runs away with this one. Schreyer's Honors College especially as well as the Smeal (sp?) School of Business are all first-rate, and I believe, although rankings should be taken with a grain of salt it's ranked 47th, ahead of Pitt (70s I think) and TU (not sure, around 90-100). Also the sports, greek life, and party scene are much much bigger than Temple or Pitt, and it is huggggge. It is surrounded by a rural area, but it is a classic college town. Pick your poison I guess. Around 20 kids went there from my hs last year, and they all love it as well, maybe too much actually.

I'm not as familar with Pitt, however I know it has very solid athletics as well as school spirit. Pittsburgh in my opinion isn't as nice as Philly, but Pitt has some really good programs. Pitt is also very urban.

So basically it comes down to sports (PSU/Pitt), setting (college town or big city), party scene (PSU, probably followed by TU then Pitt), and the quality of your intended major.

Temple is third tier, Pitt is 57, Penn State is 47. IE: in terms of rank, Pitt and Penn State are not far enough away to make a difference.

penn state and pitt would be considered 2nd tier?

"Technically" they're in the US News first tier (top 60-something universities), albeit, toward the bottom, but I think most people would catagorize them as second tier schools.

There are 3000+ colleges out there. Thats a very small first tier.

football fan, go to penn state. basketball, go to pitt.
the psychology department at temple is phenomenal, if you're into that.

Pitt...urban environment, and I liked the neighborhood there

interesting

bennyblanco, I recently graduated from Pitt after spending two years at Penn State. I can say that, for me, Pitt was much more preferable. Academically, both schools were-- for all intents and purposes-- the same. I have had awesome and horrible professors at both schools. And the student organizations are quite similar. The difference truly is the environment. Does you son/daughter want to be in the country or the city? I left Penn State because I could not stand to be in the middle of nowhere any longer. Penn State is most definately NOT a city. Everything there is to do is related to the school, except for the bars. Pittsburgh has much more variety. There are clubs, museums, movies, restaurants, shopping a nearby amusement park... anything you normally find in a city. In terms of alumni relations, I recently started a well-paying job in New York that I found through Pitt's alumni network. Maybe Penn State has better name recognition, but one's ability to get a job has more to do with how you take advantage of your opportunities, and I believe Pitt offers many more opportunities. And Pitt's presitge is growing by the day, while Penn State continually tops the "Biggest Party School" lists. Hope that helps. Any other questions, just let me know.
