Pitzer v.s. Scripps

Hi guys~ I would like some of your help~
I am going to major in chemistry and cannot decide which of the two would fit me better: pitzer and scripps. Hope you guys can provide some insights on both of them.
Thanks so much:)

I don’t know much about the two colleges regarding chemistry but I think to figure out which one was best for you, I would first consider if you’d be happy at an all women’s college. And then from there, Pitzer seems to have less general ed requirements while Scripps has the Core program which is a more structured curriculum. IIRC, Pitzer and Scripps share a science facility so it might boil down to which campus/GE courses are a better fit for you.

you’re right. since they both belong to the claremont colleges, they must somehow share the programs. Maybe I should plan a visit to the campus and see how I feel about them. Um, a little question. Does “ed” stand for “education”?

Yep “ed” stands for education. The general education courses are required courses everyone has to take to graduate. If you can, you should definitely plan a visit! Also, if you’re looking to major in Chemistry, have you looked into Harvey Mudd? It’s more science/math oriented than Scripps/Pitzer.

pitzer and scripps (as well as CMC) share a science program- the Keck science department, so the classes will generally be shared and the same no matter which college you attend, however the outside requirements and feel of each college will be the most important deciding factor.

@Amandurrs:  I def will visit.! Harvey Mudd is another part of claremont’s right? ya, i did look it up, but considering those tough schools that already on my list, i guess i need some that are about my range… if there are other schools on the top of your head, i would like to hear them:)
@ Anonymous91: thanks for the information! then it sounds like a visit is a must!

I’ve been a Scripps student. So many classes (especially in the joint science program) are shared among the colleges that you really don’t have too many all-women classes. The dorms are beautiful and after going in and out of them I have to say they seem calmer than the fully coed dorm I attended back in the 80s when I was really going to college (was just going to Scripps part time). The campus is also beautiful, Pitzer’s less so although they are getting nice new dorms too. I guess it depends if you mind (or want) the nurturing women’s college experience.

Got it! glad to hear some insights!
