Hey everyone.
Recently turned in an application that included a piece of a screenplay I’ve been working on for the past few months or so that I’m very proud of, inspired by many different games in movies. I didn’t think anything of it until after I turned it in, because now I’ve made myself worried.
It features a scene between two characters, John and Alex, boiling over in their relationship over John’s severe depression. This scene was heavily inspired by another scene in a videogame (a very controversial, much maligned game that none of the admissions counselors will have played, more than likely), with a similar beginning to the two separate scenes. One of the characters in both are also named “Alex”, however for different reasons. Everything else is entirely my own writing from my mind, including the dialogue, the character motivations, and the rest of the screenplay.
Whenever I submitted it, I didn’t say if it was inspired by anything or not. I do, however, consider the screenplay to be my original work, however this one specific scene could be misconstrued as not being that.
Could this make a problem for me?
