Alright so I am on track to be in NYU and I want to figure out my life as early as possible. On one hand, finance because it is a good mix of a variety of skill sets but on the other hand, it is not very indepth into any particular area. Should I major in Finance or should I major+major or major+minor in two different areas of study and be more indepth ?
It is way to early to figure out your life to that degree IMO. Just start NYU, take classes, and see what happens.
@happy1 well it’s only 2 years away so idk.
Are you a rising junior at NYU or a rising junior in HS?
@happy1 highschool
Waaaay to early IMO. You have close to 4 years before you will declare a college major. Lots of things can happen in that time. Slow down. First get into a b-school, then take some core business classes and see what you like, then figure out a major or combination of a double major/major and minor that is a match for your interests and aptitudes.
Finance is extremely “in-depth.” Beyond your intro and corporate finance classes, you will focus your electives on analysis of very different investment vehicles, assets, and divisions of a firm whether it’s fixed-income, investment banking, real estate, equity research etc. Your supplementary major or minors don’t make that much of a difference when it comes to recruiting for finance. Double majoring at Stern is extremely easy so the majority of students will have some sort of double major whether it is Finance + International Business, Accounting, Business Econ, Management etc. You could also just minor in non-business fields but it honestly doesn’t make a difference as proof of your technical knowledge will come during the interview process and tests.
