any suggestions? extra currics, etc

We can’t chance you based on a projected score, and your projected score is NOT in the range for the ivies with no hooks (asian even)

About your ECs…please don’t put some of the trivial stuff on there, you’ll not have enough space on the common app to put down all those stuff anyways.
Now, your ECs are all over the place and doesn’t really stand out, in addition to no commitment in any areas (20 hours here, 40 hours there, where’s your passion?)

Bottom line get that score first and we can chance you

Ok… Im really passionate about Finance and Economics?? How Can I make it “stand out”?

Which ECs do you think are “trivial”?

Thanks for the quick reply. send me the link to your Chance thread if youd like me to chance you.

None of my parents have lived in the United States nor studied there. Dad studied abroad and finished postdoctoral studies, mom finished highschool. Do I qualify for any related “hooks”?

Do bi-racials have any URM hook? especially Arabs/Southeast Asians (I think they are a different group, since nothing is similar between any of the more prominent asian american groups {Korean, Chinese, Japanese, etc.} and Southeast Asian (Indonesian, btw)?

Are Arabs considered URM? I’m really annoyed when people refer to me as white. I dont look the part, AT ALL. I have dark skin, so how is that possible that I may be refered to as “White” on applications?!!

^Typically, the admissions process is tougher on international applicants, so while there may be few Saudi Arabians at these schools, I do not think that being Arabic will give you any advantage. Also, since your father attended college but did not attend the schools you are applying to, you will not be a first generation or a legacy applicant- so as far as I can tell, no hooks.

And for an unhooked applicant, you really must bring your test scores up. I realize this is easier said than done, but the tentative scores you have posted really are not in the range of your target schools, especially when you consider that you’re an international student.

Get high test scores, write amazing essays, make sure your recommendation letters are great (you might not want to send six, though), try to distinguish your area of focus through your ECs, and then you will have as good a shot as anyone.

I speak, read, and write fluently in 3 Languages (Arabic, Indonesian, English)… is that of any pullpower?

My father attended college in the Middle East.

Im not sure how I can focus my ECs to distinguish myself in Finance and Economics. I also forgot to mention that I managed 4 portfolios for family members, annual return of 14% this june. Any pull?
Any “focused EC” suggestions would also be of great help, THANKS!!

Dude your EC’s are killer. I would change my goals though. You don’t have to go to the ivies to become powerful in the business world. Based on my intuition, with below a 2100 combined SAT you are most likely wasting your time applying to:

Columbia
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Stanford
MIT

Why not try some good schools, which are not as selective. Maybe try something as an early decision applicant. Here are some schools that you may be interested in:

Rice University
Johns Hopkins University (Apply early decision get a 2100 SAT and you’re in!)
The City College of New York: Boucher School of Business
The University of Southern California (Big on international students)
Boston University (Big on international students.)

In terms of your EC’s I’d say you should get involved into a sport, any sport. Also if you haven’t visited the universities do it. Good luck.

Just to let you know getting nominated for the “Global Young Leaders Conference” isn’t anything extraordinary. They randomly send out invites, I got one myself and then found out that another classmate who had a 1700 SAT with no ECs had got the invite too. If I were you. I wouldn’t mention it.

Like the others said, increase your test scores and make your ECs focused. I am applying for economics and many of my ECs are based on monetary things apart from which I have done a couple of internships in fields such as microecons and developmental econs. Getting those in would really help your chances

A word of advice: don’t take Math 1 and Math 2 SATIIs. Pick one- Math 2, for the schools you’re interested in.

Got your SAT score yet?

Everything’s great except your GPA is a little on the low side.
I’d say Cornell or Duke is your best bet.
It’s also harder for international kids.
