THANK YOU!

You’re a very strong applicant. Your test scores are very good, but your ECs are a little on the average side compared to other top tier applicants. If you write interesting essays, I think you’ll have a decent shot at your reaches.

I think you’ll get into Harvard. I have a parent legacy there too, and I was going to apply EA, but I’m not really interested in the school. My mom is an alum interviewer, and she says that Harvard values legacy much more than they’d like to admit.

If you could be so kind as to chance me for Brown ED

Since the post:
ACT super score is 33
-I have been offered a chair on the Olympic freerunning committee
-I am competing nationally on Saturday
-I got an internship with my city’s newspaper
-I also forgot to mention that I was founder of the creative writing club at shool

Bump

@fossilfriend Wow, really impressive stats. You’re definitely a contender for any of those schools. Great scores on math 2 and literature. Kinda off-topic, but I’m taking both of those subject tests soon, so could you tell me how you prepped (how long, which books etc.)?

Good luck!

@ambitionsquared thank you! honestly, didn’t prep much for math ii, other than i just finished calculus in school so I was up to date on math skills in general. for both literature and math ii though I used my college board SAT prep book to just review the college board’s ideas for what i should know (although it isn’t subject test specific). there’s also a pdf online - i’ll post the link below - that has practice questions for all subject tests. i definitely looked at that and solved them the night before. other than that, just a good night’s sleep and a charged calculator! i hope that’s helpful for you !

OK, now i can’t find the pdf. i thought this would be the link but it’s not working. regardless, there are practice questions on the website. GOOD LUCK!

I agree with the fact that you are a strong applicant for both schools. I would just make sure you really stand out in your essay to add that extra “sparkle” to your app.
Chance me back? (:

@smirza7228 okay send me a link please!

You are about as competitive an applicant as it gets, but they’re all competitive colleges aside from BU. Do you have a good safety option? Since you live in Illinois and would be eligible for the MSEP, Kansas might make a nice safety school and offers rolling admissions.

There are many other colleges with good undergraduate programs in archaeology, but it’s hard to suggest options without knowing an area of interest. Tulane is excellent, particularly for Mesoamerican archaeology, and offers merit aid. If you’re interested in classical archaeology, there’s Bryn Mawr and Haverford, Cornell, NYU, UNC-Chapel Hill, Penn, Duke, Princeton, Stanford, Wash U in St. Louis, UVA, etc.

Anthropology at Michigan is AMAZING (all four major divisions of anthropology, including archeology, are offered if I am not mistaken). Harvard is always a crapshoot, but I think you have good chances. I believe you should definitely hear good news from Michigan if you A) apply early and B) put effort into those supplements. I have some good friends studying anthropology at Michigan - and they have done some great stuff (I know at least one of them is concentrating In Archeology)!

@Archaeologist wow! Thanks, this is really valuable info. I’ll definitely look at those schools - I think I’ll likely be more interested in classics. I heard JHU was pretty good for classics, but I’m definitely going to consider some of those schools.

@yikesyikesyikes (haha i love your username) THAT’S SO AWESOME! That’s totally what I wanted to hear. I’m really excited about Michigan. Thanks so much.

You’ll probably get into Michigan. Tufts and JHU are low reaches, BU is a safety, Brown is a mid-reach, U of C is a mid-reach. Although Harvard’s a high reach for nearly everyone, obviously, your ECs and legacy, and the fact that you’re applying early, should help. Chance back? (Btw—I got 5s on my AP exams since I posted)

You’re a very strong applicant. The Ivies are obviously a reach for everyone but your legacy and stellar academic results should help. I’m sure you can get admitted at worst in all of the schools you listed up to BU.

Please chance me
