WHERE I APPLIED (ranked fav to least fav):
Dartmouth
Rice
Tufts
Emory
Cornell CALS
Northeastern
Duke
UNC Chapel Hill EA (I know, OOS sucks)
Wesleyan
UConn
UVM
UNH
Saint Anselm

I also applied to Harvard SCEA against my will and was deferred to be inevitably rejected

Most of these are impossible to tell, but I would especially appreciate feedback on Northeastern and the bottom 4! Those concern me the most… My college list also looks very wonky but I really don’t know what I want and I don’t think I would specifically dislike a small, medium, or large school. Also, if you guys have any rolling admissions/deadline coming up colleges that you think I should consider, please let me know!! Thanks in advance :slight_smile:

Dartmouth,Rice,Tufts,Emory,Cornell CALS, Duke,- Reach/ High Reach
UNC, Northeastern- High Match/ Low Reach
Wesleyan- Match
UConn- Low Match/ Safety
UVM- Safety
UNH- Safety
Saint Anselm- Safety

Your Reach schools are very hard to get into RD, all below 20% acceptance during that round.

What kind of school are we talking about? I do not fully understand. You don’t want big middle schools and small schools?

@shainy I think the OP is saying that they aren’t looking for a specific type of school. As we can see they have a pretty large schools (like Northeastern) and small schools (like Dartmouth), so they don’t really have a preference.

@anxiouswreck, if your essays were strong, I think you have a solid chance of admission to Emory and possibly Emory Scholar. Of course the Emory Scholar is very hard to predict but good luck! Agree with earlier posts that bottom four appear to be good choices for safeties. Your top three would be reach for anyone with solid stats, but Emory seems like more of a match to me, just one opinion though!

Because your SAT score, GPA & class rank are outstanding, you should be admitted to all providing that you can demonstrate through ECs that you do not live in a closet in the library.

@Nomorelurker
A Match??? Don’t know about that.

In at Emory unless waitlisted for yield protection.

1530 SAT & ranked #1 in class plus a whole lot more.

@VANDEMORY1342: Why would this National Merit Semi-Finalist be a reach/high reach for Emory ?

Emory is a match to a safety–even with a 25% admit rate unless Emory accepts an overwhelming amount of students ED, then it is a match.

@Publisher
The Op didn’t get scholars today. Emory also accepted many today whom didn’t get scholars but were good enough applicants to get in. OP didn’t get either. Also @Nomorelurker whom had similar stats to OP didn’t get either as well. Emory is a tough school to get into. Acceptance rate does not matter when the vast majority( 80+%) of students whom apply have high(er) stats.
Anyone whom thinks Emory is a safety is laughable (thats you).

OP will be admitted to Emory.

The vast majority of students who apply to Emory have lower stats than OP.

@anxiouswreck
If @Publisher jinx’es you, you know whom to direct any anger.

Most students(over 60% ) of students with OP’s stats are rejected. Emory adcoms clearly aren’t overly impressed with OP’s resume as they didn’t get scholars. Also the Acceptance rate is 21%, again doesn’t matter much as the field has depth.

If OP didn’t get Emory Scholars than it may be due to a concern that even with Emory Scholars that it will not be OP’s first choice school. This is known as yield protection.

@Publisher You’re hi-jacking OP’s thread so this is my last reply to you. I’m sure OP doesn’t feel that way, and would have loved to have gotten in/scholars but oh well. Also ask @lauriejgs what her son’s stats were (Which I’ll tell you now were higher). And her and mine disappointment at an ED1 rejection. Why would Emory adcoms worry about yield or utilize yield protection for ED1 applicants. You can also read the Emory “ED1/ED2 2022” and “RD 2021” thread from last year.
I’m wondering why you’re so adamant about this anyway.

OP has applied to a lot of schools. Emory isn’t likely to be an issue regardless.

Dartmouth is the toughest of the bunch.

OP: You have an outstanding record & should have some great options !

You are an extremely competitive applicant. Your ECs are good and your stats are great. With amazing essays, you could get into several of these schools

@VANDEMORY1342, first, I posted my opinion BEFORE the Emory Scholar result came out, although I still believe @anxiouswreck is a match for Emory, just as I believe my S is. That being said, I have not posted any stats for S since I joined CC, other than his ACT score on another thread many moons ago, so not sure on what basis you suggest similar stats? Also, scholar awards are often strongly based on extracurriculars and essays so similar stats, even if true, would not be particularly relevant.

I still stand by Emory as a match here, but it is an opinion so not sure why anyone would get wigged out about one person’s opinion? Also, I don’t believe there is any relation to not getting Emory Scholar vs. admission in March. In fact the emails from Emory spell that out clearly, how this year was particularly competitive with 10,500 applicants trying for an award that is harder to get than admission to Stanford. If anyone is jinxing, if that is even possible, it would be @VANDEMORY1342 to suggest that @anxiouswreck may have a hard time getting into Emory. No disrespect to Emory, but I think it’s probably a little tougher to secure admission to the first three she listed, again just an opinion.

Finally, I don’t think anyone is “hijacking the thread” by stating an opinion. I do agree though, that Emory is NOT a safety for her, although I can see how one might think that to be the case. Not to seem arrogant, but I viewed Tulane (23% acceptance) to lean between a match and a safety for S, who did get accepted with honors and generous merit.

I have a similar gut feeling about @anxiouswreck being admitted to Emory in March, though I would not call it a “safety” for her. It is true that some schools do not admit highly qualified students with high stats who they suspect might not matriculate, or might be using the application as a safety. Some schools like Tulane have been known to defer or wait list students who they predict may not enroll. Thus, @pulblisher posted about yield protection.

Hopefully @anxiouswreck will not take any of this banter as having any baring whatsoever on what school(s) she will ultimately be admitted to. She has fabulous stats and accomplishments and any school would be lucky to have her!

@Nomorelurker
Okay one, that’s an essay…
And two, I saw you past comment for another school.
Three, If your child did not get into Tulane yet how is it a safety.
And four you missed the point that Emory didn’t only give out Scholars decisions yesterday they also gave regular “rolling-like” acceptances to great applicants if Emory was a Match or even (laughably) a safety for OP or your child, they would have gotten in yesterday.
The acceptance rate for Emory is close to 20%, is it’s quite random at this point. Also the RD round which I’m assuming your son applied for is less (sometimes a lot less) than the overall acceptance rate.
No one said Rice, and ND might be harder to get into. They are Reaches as well for the both of you.

@VANDEMORY1342, will keep it short in the interest of not hijacking @anxiouswreck .This thread is not about my S, but he does share in common with her not getting the Emory Scholar yesterday, along with probably 95 to 97% of those who applied by November 15th. I think you incorrectly suggested that since they also did not get one of the small number of early admissions to Emory, this somehow lowers their chances at RD. I read this morning that only applicants who applied to both Oxford and Emory or Oxford got those early admissions, so if that is true, there is probably no baring. Also, Emory clearly stated in the email that not getting the Emory Scholar does not impact the chances for RD admission.

To clarify one other thing- I did not say Tulane or Emory are “safeties’. I” believe another poster suggested Emory might be a safety for some, a premise I disagree with. I believe Emory is a match for both Anxiouswreck and my S. Tulane, on the other hand, was somewhere between a match and a safety for S. In any case, good luck to @anxiouswreck on Emory as well as other pending applications.

Quick update for anyone who stumbles on this thread later: I did get into the bottom 4! I wish I had not been so stressed about that :slight_smile:
