Please Chance me for Phillips Andover and Winsor!

Hello! I’m an 8th grader applying for highschool at Phillips Andover, The Winsor School and St Paul’s. So far, these are the only schools I’ve looked at. If you know any schools that might suit me, please tell me in your comment! Thank you!

On the SSAT, I scored a 96% without much preperation, and am taking it again this December. In school, I take all the available honors classes (my school only offers Math and Science :frowning: ) and am a straight A student. My essay writing skills are great if I have time to work on an essay, and I think I’ll have solid essays and short answers for the schools. I’m just worried about sounding too conceited :(. For my academics, I have been featured in the Huffington Post, bostonmagazine.com, and the local newspaper (many times for that last one). I’m in almost every club my school offers, including Art Club, Debate Team, Multicultural Club, Student Council, and Math Team. I cofounded our schools Engineer’s Club, and help keep it running.

On the musical side of the spectrum, I am very fluent. I’ve played the piano for 8 years, guitar for 2, violin for 3, and am beginning to learn how to play the trumpet. I’ve sung for almost all my life and have achevied much on that front.
My show choir has won awards at the state and national level, and we once performed at a Red Sox game!! I made it into the MA state choir. I love drama, and have starred in both lead and supporting roles throughout my life. It is worth noting I had never started any of these instruments/activites just for another thing on the resume, but rather for my own growth as a person and enjoyment.

Art-wise, I love to paint, mainly using oil and spraypaint. My main media is oil on canvas, or pencil and pen on paper. I do like to tinker with collages and mixed media works. I’ve been featured in the prestigious town “Art Show” many times.

I’ve played tennis for 6 years and have loved every bit of it. I play recreationally, but I do consider myself to be quite skilled. I also have done 2 years of track at my school, to improve stamina (mainly for tennis).

I love robotics! I’ve won competitions at the state and regional levels. Me and my team won the Verizon App Challenge! I designed and upkeep a blog that now has over 11 million views! I also have my own website, which I consider to look professionally done.

I am gay. I don’t know how this will affect my chances of getting into religious schools like St. Pauls, and if anyone could tell me that would be great!

Thank you all so much for reading through all of that! Please tell me about my chances of getting into these prep schools!

Salutations.

Firstly, I am amazed at just how multifaceted you are. However, please keep in mind that you are writing to an audience that is consisted of teens your age/a little older (with a handful of parents that roam around in this forum). You are not going to get a reliable answer from anyone here. It is best to work hard on your applications, show your passions for your extracurricular activities, and wait until March 10th.

I do not think you need to retake the SSAT. A 96% is well above average for many schools, so why make extra trouble for yourself?

Some schools that I recommend you look at are Choate Rosemary Hall and Phillips Exeter Academy. Choate has a great robotics program (they actually have a new building mainly dedicated to that) and Exeter really focuses on the STEM subjects. Unfortunately, I do not know other schools that I can direct you to, so it is best to also get the opinions of many other people on College Confidential.

Concerning your sexuality, that will not play a role in the admissions process. It seems a little immature that a dignified school will reject you based on who you love. I think your issue would be whether or not the students at that particular school will accept you (which they probably will). You will be fine.

I hope this helps!

Thank you, Minimalist! I was hoping to retake in December for a better essay; the one I wrote before I’m not very proud of. I’ll definitely look into those schools! Again, thanks!

I have read some threads in the past concerning the application/SSAT, and a parent was saying how the essay plays little to no role in the admission process. However, if you strongly feel that you want to do better on the SSAT, then go for it!

Another school I have found is also an all-girls school called Emma Willard. They are very generous with financial aid and also emphasize STEM. But they add “A” into STEM. making it Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.

Thank you for the suggestion! Emma Willard sounds and looks wonderful, but I’m looking for schools close (at most 45 min travel) to Boston.

I think you need to do more clubs. I am applying as well and your resume was my resume in 6th grade.

You never know what mix they are looking for and the OP has a nice “resume” if that’s what you’re calling it @ballsohard2020. Humility will go a long way in this process!

Good luck to you @geyserr. You might consider applying to more than just two schools though if you really want the option of attending a boarding school.
