Please chance me for the UCs, Pomona, UPenn, Cornell and Stanford?

Female, Asian, lives in Seattle area of Washington, upper-middle class (likely will need financial aid for anywhere that I go to), high school is average and uncompetitive

GPA: 3.88 UW by application time (likely weakest point).

No weighted GPA calculated, but estimated weighted is around 4.3-4.4 (possibly lowered due to Orchestra and inability to take AP/honors classes before junior year)

SAT: expecting 2200-2300 based on practice tests
ACT: got 34 on practice test, have not yet taken
SAT II: Math 2 800, Physics 780, US History 800 (Would taking others help at all?)
Class rank: Top 10% (UW GPA), no definite class rank system

Oh and, not certain about this, but is being a female in STEM a hook? Especially if you’re interested in engineering?

Bump!! Any feedback at all would be extremely helpful

IT is May and you still don’t have any ACT or SAT score yet? It is hard to chance with a real test score. As for your GPA, it is about average for these schools.

I was planning on taking both this month, but my grandmother died on the same week and the funeral lasted through the testing date.

Sorry to hear that. I hope this would not affect your performance at the tests. So you have missed both tests in May and you are going to take them in June? My suggestion is always taking ACT and/or SAT at least once by April and focus on AP and subject tests in May and June. Since you already have 3 subject tests with good scores, you still have time to take SAT1. Your course load is above average, so that may help the suboptimal GPA. Just work as hard as you can to get 34+/2250+ in the tests, then you will have the ticket for the lucky draw. Your EC looks fine although there is nothing really eye-catching perhaps except the >500hr volunteering.

Thanks for your reply!

Bump? Can anyone chance for individual colleges?

Bump…

You’re a shoe-in for the UC’s. Good chances at Cornell as well. UPenn and Stanford may be reaches (as they are for practically everyone).

Thank you for the reply! I’ve been told that UCs like UCLA and Berkeley don’t accept very many state applicants and give little to no financial aid, is this true?

Bump! Does anyone know?

You’re basically not going to get any aid for the UCs as an OOS applicant. I would also not consider you a shoo-in for top UCs such as Berkeley and UCLA. Since you’re relying on aid, make sure you’re also applying to financial safeties, such as UW.

UW is a financial safety?
