PLEASE chance me for these schools... fall 2010

Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.07 ( but will have to retake a class because of some problem which will raise my GPA )
Schools Applying : UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, CSUN, Cal state LA
EC: good amount, board member of 3 clubs
Almost done with all major requirements just 2 more computer 2 more physics, 2 more math.

And also my GPA is 3.07 because I got a D on purpose so I can retake a 5 unit math class and hopefully get the A so it brings up my GPA, but I actually got a C, and with the C my gpa is 3.18. what do u guys recommend?

uci - 6.5/10
ucsb- 6/10
ucsd- 5/10
ucla - 1/10
csun- 7.5/10
csla- 8/10

i agree with kinginc. but I don’t think you have a chance at UCLA. sorry avg gpa for CS is 3.79

what about me getting the C instead of the D and what about me changing major to electrical eng. or computer eng. would you think it helps?

computer science is typically outside the school of engineering so its possibly even more difficult for EE / CompE

with all this being said… do u guys find any last minute major changes i can do?

and also im applying to USC!

Do what you want to do because none of the people here are UCLA admission officers.

noobartist…he did ask for people’s opinions that is why he started this thread. Yes, he is free to do whatever he wants. No, none of us are admission officers but that doesn’t mean we cant sort out who has a good chance or not. Sugar coating is sooo for weak people.

I need more feedbacks … please!

Well there is the obvious: improve your GPA, sign TAG’s, write a damn good personal statement, etc…

If you really do want to change your major to chance yourself at UCLA, for example, check the profile of admitted transfer students and see which majors have average GPA percentages close to your own. For 3.07 though, I don’t think there are too many…

Do TAG’s for UCI, UCSB, and UCSD.

UCLA - 1/10
USC (Viterbi) - 2/10 inserted because you mentioned it
UCSD (Jacobs) - 4/10
UCI (Donald Bren) - 4.5/10
UCSB - 6/10
CSU Northridge - 8/10
CSU Los Angeles - 9/10

This is all in my own opinion. If you weren’t able to do TAG for UCI, UCSB, and UCSD. You should really boost up your GPA or compensate by having spectacular EC’s and an amazing essay.

Well, what if I do TAG for irvine and SD and SB … will i be able to get in for sure?

^ Yes. The minimum GPA is 3.0 so you would get in for sure if you signed TAG with those schools. Just make sure your GPA doesn’t drop any further by the end of Fall semester.

it almost seems too good to be true… and my gpa will only rise!

UCSD TAG only applies for non-impacted majors. I have no idea if Comp Sci is impacted.

but for UCSD it says i have to finish all of IGETC while eng. majors dont do igetc… can someone please explain?

Bioengineering and Bioengineering: Biotechnology are the only two impacted transfer majors for UCSD.

I don’t know what you’re asking, but to be honest if that’s not your major I’d say don’t worry about it.
