What schools? Surely you’re not applying to all the Ivies.

Furthermore, your SAT score is low for the most selective colleges in the country.

Colombia and Upenn. I am considering UVA as well @bodangles

I had a 2330 (2350 superscore) and was waitlisted, ultimately rejected at Penn. I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Can’t speak as to UVA or Columbia though. Good luck

Thanks. Appreciate it!

Did you take a second SAT subject test? Perhaps Math II?

Your SAT is low for those schools. Have you taken the ACT?

I’m taking Math 2 in June. I have not taken the ACT. By the way, I’m a Virginia resident. Will I have a chance at UVA?

Ivies seem unlikely in all honesty. UVA is more realistic.

O.k. Do you think that getting a 700 on the c.r will dramatically improve my chances? @tannersmith

Does the writing have a great impact?

Ivies and other schools with, like, a >20% admit rate are pretty much reaches for everyone - even for American students with 4.0 GPAs and 2200+ on their SATs. I think most US colleges focus on the critical reading and math sections of the SAT, because the essay portion of the writing is kind of arbitrary. Bear in mind, though, that there are plenty of excellent schools in the country that aren’t Ivies, and most students usually apply to 1-2 “safety” schools, 3-5 “match” schools, and 1-2 “reach” schools. Try looking at schools that have strong programs in whatever you want to major in. You have a good shot at UVA - I’d consider it between a match and a reach for you, and if you want to go to an Ivy, you might get in if you get your reading score in the mid 700s.

Writing and your background will surely have an large impact in ivies, but you first have to have an high SAT/ACT. It’s like high scores won’t get you into ivies themselves, but you at least have to have them. I would study for those tests and try to get the highest score possible, because it doesn’t hurt to have higher scores.

There was a person in my school who made a 35 on the ACT or something, and got into an ivy. What really carried him was his story, because he was religiously persecuted in an middle eastern country. He’s also an orphan.

The only people I know who got into ivies with low(er) test scores are African American. They got in because of Affirmative Action.

Columbia and UPenn, probably not. Cornell and Brown, maybe.

The Ivy League includes 8 schools with very different communities, traditions, and standards. Just saying “chance me for ivy league admission” is pretty vague.

You definitely have a chance at UVA. UVA isn’t ivy and its not hard to get into.

@idkName I’m sorry, on what planet is UVA not hard to get into? On planet earth, UVA accepts NOT EVEN 3 kids for every 7 it rejects.

@noel597 Remember, this is College Confidential, the same place that considers schools like Notre Dame and Cornell as safeties.

@xFirefirex oh people…

The OP is a VA resident, and so admission to UVA is considerably easier than for non-residents. I would say that all Ivy League colleges are probably extreme reaches, although your fluent French and Arabic might compensate for lower CR/Writing scores. I would recommend casting a wider net, to include a few safe and “low-match” schools to your list.

Thanks for your help. Appreciate it! @woogzmam
