Please chance me?! So depressed...

Hi, I just got back my AP scores and am moody as shiz. Columbia has been my dream, but after disappointing scores after scores, my parents are almost at the point to drag me back to Korea before my senior year.

AP: Psych 4, Calc AB 5, World History Pending because the school lost all the answer sheets (got US and Art too, but they're 3s so...)
SAT: 2250 (CR700 WR750 M800)
SAT II: Math II 770, taking other one in the fall
School grades: Mostly As with some Bs, took 5 AP classes over three years
Rank: 17/800ish

Extra curricular:
MHS, NHS vp, Math League prez, jazz/marching for 4 years, indoor percussion section leader, World Class Jersey Surf drum and bugle core center marimba

I also transcribe marimba music and post on YouTube, other high school bands have used my music and posted them online.
Boston University Marching Band's front ensemble has used my music for performance also.

For community service, I've done just random things like elementary/middle school band camp, Musikfest, VBS, Girl Scouts in 9th grade...

The worst thing about this profile is that I am an International Asian. You know what that means.

Thanks for reading my crappy profile. Do you think it is actually worth applying to CU? I've heard of acceptances, but I've heard of more rejections. I just want to get a feel of where I stand as of right now (obviously well below students in Korea), and whether I should change my plans towards going to a college in the US or not.

Aite, so first things first. You will soon come to realize that AP scores are extremely trivial in the big picture. Your test scores and rank and great. However, your extracurriculars don’t really stand out. There is no reason to be depressed over a few 3s or 4s, so take it easy!

Thanks bubble! Oh I have a question, does Columbia Orchestra have a percussive spot? Like a marimba?

You don’t even have to send in your AP scores until you’ve been admitted.
Also are you applying to CC or SEAS? You application seems more geared toward SEAS, also I think you should apply ED if it’s without question your number one choice.

I forgot to put some AMC awards there; I was the school winner for AMC 8,10,12, and for the past two years I was invited to take AIME (but failed miserably).

Yes I’m applying for ED for there is negative chance I’m gonna be accepted if I put mine in Regular, but I am not sure about SEAS. I don’t think I am qualified in science enough, although I really like math (but that’s all Asians…).

^ You’re application would you give you a better shot at SEAS than CC.

I don’t think there would be a “negative” chance, haha. I’d say go for it, but work on your essays a lot. Good luck!

I think you have a pretty good chance to get in. And for the AP scores, don’t go nuts about them. If you really feel uncomfortable about reporting your 3’s, don’t report them. However, it would probably be fishy if you only report a couple and not all. I say don’t report them whatsoever. Everything is fine… all you have to do is ROCK THOSE ESSAYS!!! (:

Haha thanks all. So if I want to show them that high schools and BU played some pieces I composed (transcribed), would I have a place to put that on my app? Idk how to let the officers know about it…

The Columbia admissions site has a page covering supplementary materials. I believe you can mail in a piece, or portfolio.

Edit: As an aside, I think it’s cool you’re into drum corps. Had a quint player from my school join surf a couple years ago.

Edit2: not sure transcriptions count, since it’s not original composition. Unless you mean a creative arrangement or something. A straight note by note transcription might not be considered.
