Thank you!

Cal Poly’s admissions decisions are heavily based on GPA (grades 9-11) and SAT/ACT scores. Your GPA is excellent, and if your Math + CR scores are over 1350 then your chances will be very good. You also show good rigor in your high school coursework. To improve your chances you might consider taking the ACT, depending on how you do on your 2nd SAT.

Cal Poly won’t consider AP or SAT II scores, and will only look at the total number of hours for your ECs, not the details.

Have you considered UCSD for biology?

Thanks for replying! I got 1260 for (M+CR) but thats because I did the best on Writing. My goal is to bring that up by at least 100.

Luckily I have a lot of EC hours and work experience, so that helps.

Yes I have considered UCSD, and I will be applying there, I just don’t know how I feel about the campus.

I think vball mom addressed your specific question very well. I feel compelled to offer you some words of wisdom as I was in your shoes last year, applying for colleges, and am now
done with that exhausting exercise and pleased to report that i was accepted at Cal Poly.
Interestingly enough, Cal Poly was a total “reach” for me, but i got in. Other colleges, both state and private, which were supposed to be “matches” for me, did not accept me. it was really shocking. My take on it is that it is the Wild West out there right now, acceptance seems to be a bit of a crapshoot to me. So, getting to my advice—apply to MANY colleges, spread your net wide so that you will come up with hopefully a handful of good choices when all is said and done. I think I applied to around 12 or so, if you count each UC and CSU individually. Yeah, I know that sounds like a lot and the cost of apps. really adds up but i had a couple of friends who only applied to like four schools as they were certain they would get in but no dice, they will be at our local CC and NOT happy about it. Another lesson i learned was not to get a “crush” on only one school…try to “play the Field” a bit and I bet you’ll end up with some great offers. Best of luck and maybe I’ll see you at Poly in 2012!

Thanks artsymom!

Bummpppp
