Please chance me

If you have $40,000/year covered already, and I am sure you will be able to pay ~$15,000/year, then why did you in the first place fill in the CSS profile? Filling in the CSS profile, by and in itself implies that you want to college to give you money, putting you at a disadvantage.

I hadn’t talk to my relatives before reading your PM; I called them up seeing your " Y ( N if asking for aid ) ".

I didn’t know that asking for Financial Aid has such adverse affects. You became a savior to me regarding this matter. I hope it is not too late either and something can be done.

@Tizil7 - A VERY BIG THANK YOU. I am cancelling my aid status. My uncle is ready to pay everything for me.

( By the way my father couldn’t have afforded the $10000, our combined family income is just $3000 annually ).

One last question - Can the sponsor letter be submitted to colleges after getting an admission decision because my uncle says he would sign the sponsor letter only after I receive admission.

That sounds like a huge responsibility. I hope you have other sources apart form me as well and are researching on the internet! It is common knowledge that asking for aid at need-aware colleges does significantly reduce admissions chances. For example, Stanford only admitted 20 internationals (or was it Indians?) with aid last year.

I’m not well-equiped to answer your last question. Perhaps, you could ask the colleges themselves?

It must be Indians - I was checking their statistics for 2011-12, they did give many international students aid.

I was checking the Stanford University data set. I found a few statistics very surprising like 3% of Stanford’s students received a SAT score of 1200 - 1500.

How do students with such low scores get in to an elite school like Stanford. Are they mostly Athletes?

Sorry for the disturbance. What are my chances of getting in the college
These are my stats

Hi … I received an email from Harvard -

" In many countries, we have far more applicants than our interviewers are able to accommodate. In these cases, we offer interviews to students that we require more information from. The fact that we have further questions for some applicants does not mean that their applications are stronger than others. If we require more information about you, we will let you know. We wish you good luck on your SATs this weekend! "

So what does this mean - Are they politely rejecting me or is it true that interviews are offered regardless of stronger or weaker candidates.

Anyways how many Indians have received interview calls from Harvard

The last line of their email makes me think that you have in-fact very high chances.
They are keeping track of you and if you end up scoring high in the Subject tests, then you’ll definitely get an interview call.

Now I can’t say with full assurance whether-“The fact that we have further questions for some applicants does not mean that their applications are stronger than others”-is true for Indians or not as I am yet to see an Indian who got accepted and was not offered an interview.

Oh man I am really getting anxious about this interview part. Does Harvard offer interview to applicants only after their file is complete. ( Mine is not yet complete !! ) And what is the last date one can get an interview.

As far as I can recall 15th Feb is the last date for interviewers to mail in their evaluations for any college as the business end of the admissions process begins from 15th.
So naturally the interviews have to be before 15th.

Hey I always thought that sub 2200 SAT scores are very low for Harvard but here’s what an email I received from Harvard says :-

I wouldn’t be so CONCERNED about your SAT scores: they are just one part of the application. We do not have rigid requirements, and high marks and/or scores do not guarantee admission. In deciding whom to admit from among the large group of academically talented applicants, we look at more than just grades and scores: energy, initiative, the support of teachers and counselors, evidence that a student will take advantage of what Harvard offers.

Is it that 2030 SAT scores aren’t that bad for Harvard after all.
