Would retaking the ACT help my chances?

It would help your chances greatly, since the UCs generally consider the SATs to be more important then the private colleges do.

What would be an ideal ACT score for me?

32 or better for reasonable chances at most of those schools, minus Stanford, Yale, and Columbia which are probably well out of your reach.

Okay guys, I was only able to receive a 25 on the ACT the next time around. So just as a heads up, i’m applying to Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, UPenn, Stanford, USC, Johns Hopkins, and UChicago.
Are my chances really slim?
What privates would be more in my area that I should consider?
Planning to study Biology or Psychology
Applied to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, CSULB, CSUP, CSUSLO, CSUF
Thanks so much in advance!

Suggest looking into top test optional colleges:

Test-Optional School Among US News’ Top Liberal Arts Colleges

Middlebury College (VT)
Bowdoin College (ME)
Hamilton College (NY)
College of the Holy Cross (MA)

Take the February ACT / January SAT and score a 34 / 2200+ and you should be in at most of your schools bar the Ivy reaches.

As of now your chances are extremely slim.

Can you still do that if you’re applying for the Fall term?

I would say all of them are high reaches for your SAT scores except: UCLA, UCSD, UCD, CSULB, CSUP, CSUSLO, CSUF which are matches

Chance me back for Yale and Harvard?

Should I apply to NYU ?

Yes, you can still take the tests. Just make sure you designate the schools you want as score recipients while registering. This means you cannot see the scores before they are sent, but they maximize the chance of them reaching your intended colleges in time.

IDK why you’d want to travel across the country for NYU. It’s a nice school, but it’s not worth going from California to New York for.
