please click if u are a history major

how did your interested in history developed? did you do any interns.. volunteers.. or joined clubs.. empolyments that helped u realize u wanted to major in history?

Interestingly enough I only realized I wanted to major in History this year, but Stanford, I suppose, is looking for someone who’s been more passionate than I have.

Anyway I digress- I actually became interested in History when I spoke to my AP US teacher who coincidentally asked me if there was any particular reason why I was interested in History. Through out his class and my earlier AP Euro class I had done well and I had never thought about it, in fact, I never took as many notes as half the people in my class did either. He also had seen me condense some of his lectures for students to explain concepts before quizes- something I just did to help. So, out of some personal hunch he told me that I could make a good history teacher. Till then I had been interested in science, but I did it only grudgingly, to placate my parents-and my parents would hear nothing of my ambition to teach history. Rather than fight I gave in and accepted a position as an intern in a laboratory involved in the AFP Pre-Natal testing program, however, my internship only intensified my zest for History. Like anything else anyone gets involved in there is always a web of history in the program and the Ph.D Laboratory Director saw this immediately (at my interview) and gave me various tasks that helped me discover more of how, in history, the public and private economic spheres coordinated. This style of research was two fold in purpose: find a way to economically sharpen the saw for the lab as well as develop my research skills. It worked. I came back this year, my senior year, ready to face my parents expectations and my passions wholeheartedly.

I should also mention that I am a three member of my schools speech and debate. I’m Captain this year and am ranked in the top 30 nationally in International Extemporaneous speaking

Other unmentioned ec’s
-I volunteer at the local Emergency Room
-I volunteer caring for a paralyzed Vietnam Vet
-I play principal clarinet for a premier Northern California youth symphony

Sorry if this came out all too long winded, I suppose I have been waiting for someone to ask about this and could never write about it myself-Thank You
