Hello CC! I’m currently a rising junior and have out together this schedule for my next two years of HS.
Junior Year:
AP U.S. History
AP English Lang
AP Physics 1
Chem Honors
Trig Honors
PLTW Electrical Engineering
Senior Year:
AP English Lit
AP Gov / AP Econ
AP Calc AB
AP Physics C (Probably E:M if the school gets one next year. If not then mechanics)
PLTW Engineering Design and Development
Open Period ??? <------------
So basically I don’t know what I want to take in place of my open period senior year. I can take AP Chem, but that seems a bit much considering I’ll probably have AP Physics C E:M. I kinda want to take AP Studio Art:Drawing, but I’m really bad at drawing. I could perhaps take it to improve?
What’s PLTW Electrical Engineering?
Its part of the 4-year PLTW engineering program. It’s actually PLTW Digital Electronics, but my school did some changes to the course and renamed it. The course itself is based around electrical engineering (logic gates, basic programming, circuits, etc.)
PLTW stands for Project lead the way
^ kind of miss meteorology, zoology and environment science
@ NASA2014 please do not suggest classes when you don’t know high school curricula, core/complementary/electives, etc. Meteorology is your personal passion but isn’t a core class in high school.
@seant001:
your schedule is not well-balanced junior year. Chem+Physics+ PLTW makes for a science-heavy junior year then senior year moves to fewer science classes. Another issue I see is that you’re missing Foreign Language level 3 or 4. I suppose you want to major in STEM (Engineering? EE, CSE?). So it’d make sense to push one of your science classes to senior year. On the other hand, senior year is when you’re writing all your college applications, so it’d be a definite downside in terms of time commitment.
This is my recommendation:
Junior Year:
AP U.S. History
AP English Lang
AP Physics 1
Trig Honors
PLTW Electrical Engineering
Foreign Language 3 or 4
Senior Year:
Senior English Honors
AP Gov / AP Econ
AP Calc AB
AP Physics C (Probably E:M if the school gets one next year. If not then mechanics)
PLTW Engineering Design and Development
Chem Honors
This way you increase your science workload from junior to senior year (showing increased specialization without sacrificing general knowledge and without making senior year impossible), you keep a balance of 3 AP’s + one PLTW, and you meet basic requirements for the most selective colleges wrt foreign language.
^ guessing Trig honors is their precalc
The thing is my school won’t allow me to Drop or delay chemistry as it’s a core science course. Also foreign language is the death of both me and my GPA.
Well, some colleges REQUIRE 3 years of the same language (and recommend 4 years), which could be an issue. For example Cornell requires 3 years of a foreign language.
