Please grade this (out of 12)! This is my first time taking the SATs and I think it will help to know what people think my essay will be. Also, please give general suggestions for improvement. Thanks!

Prompt: What is the most important test of maturity?

Throughout the long history of man, people have often associated maturity with age and statute. Now, when a person grows to be a certain age, one is considered to be "mature" and is thus treated like an adult, regardless of whether or not one is trully mature. However, age does not determine maturity. The most important "test" of maturity is experience and dedication, as can be seen in the Intel International Science Fair winners, and the children living in America in the prairies during the 1800s.

First of all, the Intel International Science Fair is one of the most prestigious high school science fairs. Many of the Finalists and Semi-finalists achieve remarkable discoveries and innovations like hand built robots, prosthetic arms, and cures for cancer. All competitors in the Intel International Science Fair are high schoolers under the age of 19-too young still to drink alcohol. These young prodigies often spend hundreds of hours researching and perfecting their science fair projects. Unsurprisingly, these competitors are often seen as mature and intelligents. However, it is not because of their age that they are mature; it is because of their dedication and commitment.

In addition, the young prairie children living in American in the 1800s were usually very mature despite their youth. In the 1800s, the American West was still very undeveloped and open. Settlers in the west faced harsh lives and had to work very hard. As a result, young children often had to work alongside their parents. Because these children were dedicated to helping their parents, their growing-up experience has made them very mature. An examples of this is Laura Wilder in the book "Little House on the Prairie." Despite her youth, Laura had to work and hlep her parents and her siste. This experience made her very mature.

Maturity is not dependent on age, but on experience and dedication. Someone who is very young may be wiser and more mature than a "grown-up" over the age of 18. Thus, one shouldn't judge people's maturity by their age, but by experience and dedication.
