Hey everyone,

I'm about to complete my first semester of college and i am really concerned about some things. First of all I'm going to school at Texas A&M Commerce, I had declared a major in pre-med biology, but I have become rather disillusioned with becoming a doctor (8 years of school followed by internships, then residency, then underpaid for what i do?? No thanks). Ironically I have become really fond of mathematics, me being the person I am, I researched what i could do with a degree in math. There seemed to be many things you could do that paid respectable salaries.

However, there came up many arguments between economics majors, engineering majors, etc. My math professor told me that it would be best to get my bachelors in math then specialize depending on what i liked in math. Here comes the problem, I have 3 years on my GI-bill so i plan to blitz my bachelors and then use the Texas Hazelwood Act to get my graduate in....something. Should i get a bachelors in math? What can i do with a degree in mathematics realistically? My goals in life are simple, get a good job with an outstanding salary and take care of my family. Everything else is pretty simple, I've come to find out that as far as work is concerned, if i am constructing/deconstructing, analyzing/interpreting, or basically anything that uses applied knowledge and skills I am happy. Money is important to me, I have been very poor, I have a daughter and wife, and I live in the real world, so I know that money makes the world go round, and the more you have, the easier things CAN get. I do love science, but there seem to me more opportunities in math related fields, and I enjoy math, so I figure one is going to be major, the other, a minor. I am going to speak with a career counselor soon so I can see if I can pull off a double major, but i doubt it. I am looking for any and all advice (preferably from people with more experience than i have).

Sorry for the long post but my education is extremely important to me.

Thanks all!
