Hello.
I'm still undecided between Bard and Grinnell, and need to make the decision. I would appreciate feedback about all aspects of these two colleges, from both students and from their parents.
Thanks so much.

I would pick Bard. I’ve heard more positive things about it, plus I don’t like Grinnells name. Stupid, but it’s true.

Grinnell is one of the schools that is on the rise and rise.It came from virtually nowhere to be ranked #14 liberal arts colleges.Theyhave a huge endowment, which means great facilities and lots of opportunites. There will be a LOT more diversity at Grinnell, unlike Bard which will be overun with New England prep school types.Which is not a bad thing if that’s what you’re into. OTOH Grinnell,IA is not exactly the most desirable location. You will be engulfed by cornfields.Bard,IMO is in a more desirable state,NY.Make a list of what you want in a college, and pick whichever has the most +ve attributes. If you’re still not sure, visit both and pick the one where you feel more like you belong.

“Engulfed by cornfields?”

Grinnell College is a two block walk to the historic district of Grinnell (a small college town of 9,000). You can’t see a cornfield from anywhere on campus. You are roughly one hour to Iowa City and one hour to Des Moines. (Although, to be fair, Grinnell has it’s own observatory - no light pollution at night!)

The great thing about the location (it’s a plus, not a minus) is that the students are focused on college life, which makes for an active student culture - no bystanders. If you want to try something you’ve never done before, you’ll be welcomed. And the college welcomes townies to their events and provides some financial support to local institutions so town/gown relations are exceptionally good.
