Hi! As my name suggests I am CLUELESS!!! I graduated from HS a year ago and I am now going into my 2nd yr of college at a local community college.
I want to transfer to another university but I have no idea how student loans work? My dad is foreign and CLUELESS too. Idk how fafsa works or any of that works either. My dad has just been paying my comm college cash.
Anyway yeah so how do loans work? how do I get one?? And can I use that money towards a car/apartment or can I only pay tuiton with it? HELP ME !!!
Well first you fill out the fafsa regardless of if you have gotten accepted or not. The earlier you put it in the better it is for you.
You can get grants and loans. Grants you do not have to pay back but stident loans you do 6 months after you graduate. One thing that is important is that student loans must be paid back no matter what. Now it doesnt mean they are bad but it means that you should only take out as much as you need and no more.
^^^FAFSA provides the receiving college with your financial information. The colleges provide your financial aid package which may be mostly loans. You have an option to say yes or no to the loans. Some loans can only be taken out by your parents. As a transfer, your scholarships are limited, but if you are in-state, you may be eligible for your state grants.
Doesn’t your community college have a financial aid office? I would make an appointment and talk to someone there to answer all your questions.
