Your daughter must have initials TM, if I have guessed her correctly.

just my two cents, but you seem like a perfect fit for wharton… consulting, finance, management, economics, entrepreneurial… and social and sports at Penn… a real college experience… and in the USA

YES Ms Tierney

Yep, thought so. I just didn’t say her full name for the sake of privacy. My best mate from Sydney also won the Robertson and mentioned your daughter among the winners.

Hi Up the Saints, Actually she doesn’t have a clue who won. Not told. Were you interviewed in Victoria, How many of you?

Hi Comedian, i actually applied through the US office rather than UNSW (which i didnt know about…its not very well publicised for any region other than Sydney), which was rather stupid because there r 60,000 competing applicants in the US stream, so the odds are massively better when applying in the Aussie stream. Thankfully it didnt matter because i ended up choosing the Oxford system over Stanford/US system (altho its always nicer to win something than not, even if there’s no material difference).

All interviewed applicants from the Australian stream were from Sydney schools. 4 were chosen. 2 chose Duke, 1 elected UNC and then your daughter (although my best friend has since decided to refuse the scholarship and attend university elsewhere, and he was one of the Duke admitees). In total, there have been 8 Australians (1 Normanhurst Boys, 2 Kings School, 2 Trinity Boys, 2 Shore, and then ur daughter) chosen since the program’s inception in Australia.

@ comedian - my S found out yesterday that he has been awarded that scholarship, I keep finding out more and more wonderful things about it. It is so much more than a full ride to one of the top schools in USA. When my S visited Duke this past weekend he became good friends with an Australian boy who is a freshman at Duke and also a Robbie :)

Im one of the Australian Robertson winners that UpTheSaints referred to. @Kelowna may I ask what are the extra wonderful things you’ve heard? As far as I understand it’s full funding for tuition, board, room, as well as summer activities, and then further resources are provided for leadership development courses and stuff like that. Is that all of it (of course, that’s pretty awesome even at that)? And yeah, Daniel (the freshman) is a great bloke.

@comedian: i could b wrong, but from what ive heard its not actually an entirely full ride for internationals like us. Internationals normally have to pay a gap payment because there are extra expenses…i THINK its like 3,000 - 5,000 per year or something like that.

I think the robertson sounds like a great opportunity. Every year there are a few robbies that rejected the Ivies, and, by the same token, every year there are several ivy-goers who rejected the robertson…and thats basically what im deciding now. Unfortunately, Duke doesnt have a great international reputation so, if i wanted to come home, its probably not as strong as just doing law at Usyd here. Ahhhh sucks…lot of money to save…and basketball!

Hi I’m Comedian’s daughter, Tierney and am SO excited to be a Robbie!
Kelowna- Congraulations to your son! I’d be glad to meet him when we start in August! Like you and your Son i’m just so delighted to have this opportunity. From the moment I read about Robertson I knew it would be a dream come true, and one I could never imagine turning down.
@Upthesaints- I’ve loved reading all the comments on this thread. Congratulations on Oxford From what I know in past years yes there were those candidates chosen, but also a girl Jacqui from Victoria who I have been in contact with.
Shore1- Hi and congratulations! I’m sure you’re just as excited as me and I look forward to meeting you. I haven’t heard anything about a gap payment, but then again I could be wrong. Also from my understanding and research Duke has an outstanding international reputation.
xx

Hi Kelowna, Shore and Up the Saints; Kelowna, I think it is the most amazing, life changing opportunity that any parent could imagine for their child. Incredible education, inspiring company and wonderful community service opportunities not to mention all the Leadership and mentoring. I keep returning to their site and discover more and more benefits… …I’m in awe. Are you as excited for your son as we are for our daughter? Up the Saints; 1 of the winners now at UNC was from Sydney Boys and another; from last year, a girl from a school in Victoria., so not only those schools you listed. Well, if your friend didn’t accept it I guess there’s only 3 now. And Shore, you are one of those… I would not be doubting the value of this scholarship or questioning Duke’s international reputation, but yes if it’s a Law degree you want in Australia, you’ll get there in a more straight forward way with a good rep from USyd.

Hi Tierney. My daughter is also very excited to be a Robertson scholar this fall. I’m sure that she’d enjoy chatting with you, so let me know if you’re interested in that. Congratulations!

Hi blueguillespie
I’d love to speak to your daughter! She can add me on facebook: Tierney Maray.
Tierney

@Comedian - I am extremely excited for my S ! Are you going to have longer vacations while in USA dropping her off? I just spoke with the Robertson Scholarship office and was told that while they do not have exact dates yet for that NOLS adventure, it is usually a week before the regular move in days start.
@ Tierney - have you joined the Duke’17 on fb?
