Hello, I am an international student from Bangladesh hoping to apply for Philips andover academy, Exeter academy and Chaote rosemary school this year without SSAT in grade 10 with financial aid.
I come from a military school. I have mostly A’s in all subjects. Stood first in a national admission test. I have made upto national round of an Olympiad twice consecutively. I won award as best Academics. I teach to student who can’t afford private tutors. I play badminton for a long time though no awards. I’m the class representative.
What are my chances of getting in. Please do help and pardon me if there is any mistake as I am completely new here .
I think your odds are more likely if you take the SSAT, the ISEE, or another recognized test. I don’t know what is available in Bangladesh. The SSAT can be taken online. Also, you have only named well known hyper competitive schools with low admission rates. You should increase your odds by apply to more schools and less selective schools.
Thank you for your answer. I’m applying to other schools too like Blair academy. But online SSAT is only available to US and Canadian regions. How far do you think my not taking SSAT will affect my chances? Can you guess about Blair too?
Any of the schools with a less than 20-30% acceptance rate are hard to get in to. Looks like Blair is about 20%. You can email schools directly to ask about SSAT and explain your situation, that is going to get you better information than asking here.
Thank you for your suggestion. They are test optional this year and
they replied to my email saying that it won’t affect much. Can you suggest some schools with high acceptance rate and good financial aid?
I have tried my best to do my research but still the most of them has low acceptance.
Can any current boarding school student give me an insight about those schools please? Like how the interview is conducted and a student is evaluated on basis of which criteria?

A lot of schools are test optional this year. And, at the very least, schools are going to be more understanding if a student physically CANNOT take the tests. There are many travel restrictions.

The math section is IRRELEVANT in this case. He’s made it to the national round of the Bangledesh Math Olympiad TWICE. This means that his math skills are at a much higher level than the material on the SSAT and IEEE.

The verbal section would not be an accurate reflection of this applicant’s ability, and would be best coupled with a TOEFL of some sort.
Unfortunately most of us have a foggy, at best, understanding of how foreign applicants are judged and admitted. Do your best on your applications, maybe have someone who is a native English speaker edit your essays with you.
Other than that stop worrying about your chances as seen by total strangers here. We don’t really have any answers beyond “you seem pretty solid.”
Thanks for help but I did not made it in math olympiad . The olympiad I participated was International Leadership Program on Education . But my math score in exams are good.
one1ofeach thank you very much for your insight . I now understand that actually others can not estimate chances as there are more aspects to a person than few statistics
While filling up the candidate profile I am facing a confusion regarding how should I list my awards and achievement ? Should I just list them or explain the award and it’s significance and additional explanation? Any guidance will be highly appreciated. Besides can my math private tutor write the recommendation letter?
You can list awards and ec’s and give a short explanation if necessary. For my kids’ apps we included websites for their two community service activities - keep it short and simple!!!
The rules may be different this year but your teacher, not tutor is supposed to write your rec. The point is that they want to know what you are like in the classroom. You aren’t going to have a math tutor at the schools you’re applying to so your relationship with your math tutor is nice but somewhat irrelevant.
Thank you @onelofeach for you help.
However, the math tutor can be a supplemental recommendation, particularly if the OP is interested in being a mathlete.
