I am pursuing a B.S in computer science and I don’t know which college to go to
UC Riverside(highest CS ranking out of all of them but past stigma has me worried)
CSU East Bay(Can live at home and commute)
SFSU(Can live at home and take BART.)
If cost isn’t a factor where should I go?
also I have a TAG for UCSC but they said they’ll admit me in a non screening major even though I satisfied all the requirements. I’m appealing it right now and if I somehow get in for CS, should I go there as opposed to the three above?
UCSC(On campus)
I’d go with UCR if it’s affordable. It may be Riverside, it’s still a UC! Otherwise, you can pick either CSU.
If you get into UCSC CS as you know it’s the best of the bunch.
If costs are not an issue then UC Riverside. East Bay is a good choice if you are looking for affordability and has a good ROI for CS majors due to proximity to the Silicon Valley area.
Check Payscale for ratings.
they are all fine - I’d tend to pick UCSC if they let you into the CS program.
UCR is solid - and gets you out of the family house which may be appealing but expensive.
Either SF or EB will be solid and well connected. If cost is a big concern, Go to whichever has the easiest commute.
The proximity of CSUEB (in the Hayward Hills) is just about as far to Silicon Valley as SFSU (located in the most southern end of SF going south toward SV). From CSUEB, one would have to also cross the San Mateo Bridge or Dumbarton Bridge to drive to Silicon Valley. From SFSU, it is southbound on Hwy. 280.
Unless you win your appeal to UCSC, I believe UCR is the best choice, as mentioned, and since it is a UC.
