Please Help Me Decide

@SOSConcern
Thanks for the support!

That’s why I said to email right away lol :-).
So, now you have everything in writing, they know, and you’ll get your offer on time. :slight_smile:
You can email food services, especially catering, and ask if they would have use for a certified cake decorator - perhaps not on a weekly basis, but for events/for receptions ?

Wow! I didn’t even think the could possibly need a cake decorator! That’s awesome! I’m able to make the huge edible fondant and gum paste flower arrangements and everything! This is wonderful! Who knows?

You are like one of the best people–internet or not-- I’ve ever had the chance of talking to!
My principal had even told me not to apply because I would have no chance.

:slight_smile: Not saying they WILL, but it’s worth asking, and at least letting them know you’re available.
Take pictures of what you’ve done, perhaps, and have them ready to join to your CV.
It’s likely you could learn a lot, too (they have chefs and everything) and get a nice summer gig somewhere near a beach. :slight_smile: Unless you get a research position somewhere, or an internship or anything else. :slight_smile:

True true. The worst they can tell me is “no”. I could imagine doing that during the summer.
This is more help than I’ve gotten at my school or from my “college readiness advisor” at my HS.

Tell your college readiness advisor to sign onto College Confidential and start reading.
He has a lot of catching up to do.

Good point. Personally, I’m explaining to all of the Juniors what to do, considering the College Readiness Advisor doesn’t trust or know about scholarship sites like Fastweb or cappex. These poor uninformed juniors coming into their senior year. I can only hope I can prepare all of the them in time.

@SantiagoAlverez Good luck! This is a wonderful thread, I hope everything works out and you come back and update this thread often, maybe in 10 yrs you can tell us about your job at the CDC.

@Mom24boys
Thank you for the encouragement!! I plan on updating this thread, and helping other hopeful seniors when I’m at the undergraduate institution I end up with. Maybe I’ll be able to help make internships at the CDC? :wink:

The KEY elements you have to share with current juniors:
1° the best financial aid comes from the colleges themselves. If they are low income and have the stats, they should target these colleges:
http://www.thecollegesolution.com/schools-that-meet-100-of-financial-need-2/
2° how do they know if they have the stats? To find the college’s data, go to a website called collegedata, typing that and the name of the college next to it. “to have the right stats” varies by college. They need to see if they meet the top 25% threshold (they’ll see something like “ACT 25-28” - the top 25% threshold is 28) to have matches, and everything else is a reach (ie, if you have 26 that school is a reach.) The stats you need vary depending on the school so you have to check for every college.
3° your test scores will be mitigated if you come from a lower-performing school, but your academics need to be stellar. For example, St Olaf will be okay if you have an ACT 25, and Yale will forgive you for an ACT 28, but you better have a near perfect GPA and show you love learning and proved it with your classes, essays, recommendations, and activities. Challenge yourself with AP’s/dual enrollment classes, and make a difference with your EC’s. It’s not how many - it’s, which one mattered to you and how far did you go with it? Note that “work” is a strong EC, as long as it’s been pursued for a while, preferably at the same place and preferably explained in “additional information”. A promotion in responsibility (even if not in title) is good as is an additional recommendation from a work supervisor highlighting your qualities, responsibilities, and providing any background a teacher/GC may not know.

Okay! I’ll be sure to pass this on to my fellow students!!

Vow @SantiagoAlverez I am on the same boat as you. Congratulations first.

I just sent my DECLINE response to YSU. Yale bound also. Super excited. First Ivy leaguer in the family may be from my town too. Where are you from? IM me when you have time.

Just to let everyone know, I will attending Yale with close to a full-ride.
