"not enough about resources and fit"?
means more asians, more competitive?

Hah, cute. More like whether you like the surrounding area (I for one prefer SB to Irvine), whether or not you like the campus, housing facilities, etc.

Don't discount cost of living as an important factor.

ok, between these two, i heard UCSB is a party school, well thats the thing i dont want a drug alcohol sex hole, all i want it simple, social life+GPA, so
but i heard UCSB is number 45 in the whoel nation ranking, while UCI is 40, which one should i do thne

fantasy,

Try visiting both campuses and talking to students. See which one you like based on your own experiences.

A lot of stuff you're throwing out is just stereotypes about both schools. I started this quarter as a transfer student in UCSB.

In terms of social life, both Irvine won't necessarily offer you a better place because you already live in the area. The great thing about UCSB is that the huge majority of students live in the dorms or Isla Vista, which is right next to campus. So it's easy to visit your friends whenever you want because about 75% of the population is within walking/short biking distance of campus.

In terms of the whole party school thing, it's overblown commonly by people who don't attend the school. It was quite a shock to me how much work I really had to do. There's often people staying in and studying on Friday and Saturday nights in the dorm lounge and it's always easy to find someone to study with.

It's not just parties every single day at UCSB, and if you think it'll be easy because of UCSB's party reputation, don't count on it.

so RC251, are you majorin Bio? is your bio program hard?

Nope sorry, I'm a Political Science major.

is there a lotta asians there?
do you a few in your class?

fantasy05, I'm applying for UC's for Fall 06' as a political science major. Organic Chemistry is indeed a difficult major but I think you should major in whatever is interesting to you. Don't worry too much about how diffcult a a particular major is. If you love studying the material then good grades will follow.

I heard that UCSB is made up of about 15% Asians (no, this is not an accurate percentage). UCI, literally, is about 55 - 60% Asians as you already know.

Actual #s:

UCI:
46.6% Asian/Pacific Islander
2.3% African American
25.9% White
11.9% Chicano/Latino
7% not stated

UCSB:
7.3% Asian/Pacific Islander
.7% African American
51.4% White
5.8% Chicano/Latino
29.3% NOT STATED

source: UC Introducing the University 06-07 booklet, published April 2005.

According to official UC stats, UCSB is 13% Asian, and Irvine is 48%.

And while I know I'm prone to saying go where you feel happy, I don't think it's going to make that big of a difference in your experience if there are more Asians. Trust me, fantasy05, if you want to find an Asian at UCSB, you'll find one. 1 out of 10 people is more than enough Asians.

Besides, who cares? Go for something new and different.

Yeah, here's the campus profile. Most reports I've seen have it at the 15% level.

And yeah, I see enough Asians that you probably wouldn't be lonely if you feel you need to be around other Asian people, but like said above, don't make it a dealbreaker in your college selection.

rc251- you are referencing a freshmen number. And UCLAri's numbers are from Fall 2002. The numbers I stated are from the most recent UC materials and are for the entire undergraduate population.

gabew,

I stand corrected.

wha...what a big difference..
reason why i like more asian campus is more fun to me cuz my own ethnity.. but too many might be a worse idea cuz more competitive.
tomorrow i iwll call up Irvine to see how well i can change my major there, if no? F Irvine, go for SB!!

I say, worry about getting admitted first. Then you can bump this thread when you get in.

fantasy05,

Sorry buddy, but if you think that all the students who aren't Asian aren't competitive, you need a reality check. I'm not Asian, and I'm not some idiot.

Why don't you consider UCR?

UCLAri, japanese arent asians? just wondering, no any offense.
what i meant is being my own ethnity , own culture would be much better than in a completely blackout or sunny place. you see what i mean?
well, SB is cool, a sunny place, but im afraid i cant sunbath

UCR is the worst UC and no offense but did a reality check.
the UCR has worst students and dumbass.
so even cal state > UCR.
