Please Help Me !!!!! I Cant Decide Which Uc Should I Go!

Dammit, just because I live in Japan doesn't mean I'm Japanese. Read my profile.

I guess, but it's not like you're going to not find Asians at UCSB. Trust me, I know a few there.

hahaha
but anyways, it's gonna be borin for me at SB

Dude, if you'll be bored at UCSB, you'll be catatonic at UCI.

Just an observation.

catatonic ??
but there a lotta asians at UCI
you know man, i need social life at a college, im not a close end person. i like party etc also good gpa.
thats why i cant decide
but SB is all sunny people. too sunny.. might be not worth going there, cuz you know when you went japan, japanese culture wont fit you, arent they?

I don't get it. UCSB has lots of parties, so what's the deal?

What are "sunny people?" Is that some term for whites?

And I fit in just fine in Japan because I keep an open mind and I do my best to fit in.

u did fit in, according to darwinism.
but to me, hell no.
i want a place where i can do social life = GPA like USC

According to darwinism? What? Explain.

hey dude, let me ask you,
is it a good idea to dig in a all asian school?cuz i think more asian=more competitive?

More Asians does not necessarily mean that it is more competitive. How about Caucasians? Blacks? Hispanics? All of these nationalities are just as likely to be as competitive as the other. Don't get me wrong though because I clearly understand what you're saying. I think Harvard and Yale consists mostly of Caucasians but correct me if I'm wrong.

Harvard is less Asian than UCI, and certainly more competitive.

In fact, I bet that a lot of the LACs are more white than UCI, and are far more competitive.

Get your head out of that certain orafice, fantasy05, and realize that non-Asians aren't dumb.

I hate to be strereotypical and take part in racial profiling but I'd say generally asian people have better work ethic than other ethnicities.

Look at what races/ethnicities dominate medical schools? By dominate i mean more of...

It doesn't make them "smarter." And besides, "Asian" only means Northeast Asian (i.e. Chinese, Korean, Japanese) and tends to ignore the fact that Filipinos and other Southeast Asians are underrepresented in universities.

UCLAri, i agree w/ that. It's really hard to define what "smart" is.

A lot of the time one person doing better in a class can be easily explained by work ethic. Some people can just study almost entire day and sleep just couple of hours..

In any case, highschoolda, if you're going to a top school, you don't think that pretty much everyone there is going to have a similar work ethic?

I had my fair share of curves busted by non-Asians.

To be honest, i don't know b/c i attend a CC... I have heard that there are some slakers in univ who just party a ton. Some people study more than others.

I know my work ethic and study habbits must be improved some...

Yeah, but do you really think that UCI is a school where all the Asians are super smart, and the whites, blacks, and Hispanics are just a bunch of drooling mouth breathers? That seems to be fantasy05's image.

Not talking facts here, but I think its interesting that big Asian schools like UCB or MIT have the reputation of 'hard-work' schools while majority white schools such as UCSB or ASU have party school reputations.

Correlation is not causation. ;)

Most of my Asian friends went to UCI out of high school and let me tell you, they were by no means as hardworking as the Caucasians at my school. I went to Laguna Hills High School, a middle-to-upper class city which consists mostly of Caucasians. These Caucasian students come from very wealthy families and their work ethic follows from their parents' success. You can imagine the pressure that is pressed onto them. This is not to say that Asian families are not as strict and don't stress their kids to work hard in school. Obviously, from the stereotype that we have, we have the strongest work ethic next to Caucasians. This is why the demographics of such universities as UCLA & CAL (Berkeley) are comprised mainly of Asians & Caucasians, sometimes making up 75%+ combined of the entire university's populous.

I think this conversation should end before we go even further into uninformed, quasi-racist talk.
