I'll be a sophomore next year and I have just recently decided that I want to go to med. school for psychiatry instead of going to grad. school for clinical psych.

I planned my schedule all over and I figure I can graduate in 2 more years in Neuroscience if I do some summer courses next summer. The thing is, I probably wouldn't have many hard-core sciences classes to show the schools when I apply next next. (only have basic pre-med requirement and 3 more higher level bio classes)

Would med. school emphasized on how many hard-core science I've taken by the time I apply? I'm afraid that I wouldn't have enough good grades to show them (assuming that I will do well on them)

I always thought as long as you have had good grades on pre-reqs and a few more upper-level bio course, and a good MCAT score, you have descent fighting chances. (of course, you need the all important medicine related ECs.)

I do not quite understand what you mean by “hard-core science.” Any BCPM courses are equally good, I would think. You do need to take science courses for science majors of course.

Thanks for the replies! I’m also wondering how heavy do they look at your experiences in the hospital, e.g., volunteering?
Given I already have lots of research experiences.

They expect enough for you to justify why you want to go into medicine and they hope that you will have learned something from the experience. A years worth is nice, even if its only a couple hours a week.

That being said, a few months worth of experience works for a lot of people too.
