PLEASE HELP ME!!! SESEC Stanford Cardiothoracic Summer Internship

Hi everyone,
I am a sophomore applying to the Stanford Cardiothoracic program. My mother only makes $25,000 a year so spending $195 just on an application is a big deal for us. Should I even spend my money if my stats are terrible?

On my PSATs I score a 158 (CR 55 M 59 W 47) I should've taken them more seriously, I fell asleep during the writing section :(. Writing is usually my best section. My average is a 91.73 because of freshman year. I had terrible eyesight (still do) but I had conflicts with my Medicaid and I haven't been to the doctor for 2 years. I didn't have Medicaid and I couldn't afford to buy glasses nor had insurance to cover for them and get my eyes checked. My mother fixed that issue and now I have Straight As instead of a mixture of Bs and As. My grades now have made a nascent turnaround and its obvious in my transcript.

I'm Hispanic and a first generation student. My eassays are going to focus on my socioeconomic status and dealing with social anxiety, paranoia issues, and medical issues. They're going to be on how I'm slowly overcoming them/ how I overcame them.

Please be honest !!!

The appication is due this Friday and I found out about this internship this week so I'm really desperate for help. I have no idea how competitive this program is! Please, anyone!

I got glasses now which is why my grades are 1000 times better ! ^

Sssec*

:’( please someone.

Honestly, you should save your money. Use your money elsewhere and get an internship at a college or something. To be candid, Stanford SSSEC is competitive and a 158 isn’t too hot. Since you are still a sophomore, sign up for SAT prep classes or get a job or volunteer. The possibilities are endless but I don’t recommend applying especially if the fee is $195. I know what you are feeling and that’s why I only apply to summer programs where the application fee is free. Good luck.

Thank you! And I did do well on my SATs after. On the PSATs I just did bad because I didn’t take it seriously. I didn’t read the passages and I fell asleep throughout small sections or just dozed off. On other tactics tests I get scores up to 2000! (CR 650 M 650 W 700). Will a 200 on my SATs be good enough to apply next year? I am only a sophomore. Also, thank you very much!

Hey Guys! I am junior and I applied with an 2340 SAT score. Has anyone gotten a response from them?

My daughter is also a Junior that applied this year and has not heard back. According to the website, the decision date was supposed to be March 21st. I hope they let her know soon because she has an approaching deadline for the other program she was accepted into.

I also applied, so I called and emailed the person in charge. They mailed out the acceptance letters (by post, not email) on Friday, 3/21, which is why no one has received them yet. However, if you call or email them they will tell you whether or not you have been accepted.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you all know that I will be attending Program 2 this summer. I’d like to get to know anyone who will be attending. I made a Facebook titled “Stanford Cardiothoracic Surgical Skills Summer Internship 2014” and I hope you guys will join.
