Also take the SAT. Some schools base scholarships on M+CR (SAT) or the ACT. So if your M+CR on the SAT is higher than the equivalent ACT, you could get some scholarships. :)

*Parents said: apply for all financial aid, scholarships, and anything else, but whatever the left over is they said they will help me deal; I just want to keep it under 27,000.

That’s nice. But I think you need to ask them what would happen in a “worst-case” scenario. Say, you get into your reach, match, and safety schools, and get $10k/year in scholarships, but you still owe - say - $20k per year. How will they help you “deal” with that? Co-signing that much in loans ($80k in total) would not be doing you a favor.

I think you need to get a more firm answer as to what is the most they can pay/do. Assure them that you’re still going to try for scholarships/aid, but you need this info so that you can make the best choices in case you don’t get much aid/scholarships.

FYI…state publics won’t give out-of-state students financial aid that they need. That’s because OOS publics can’t meet the need of their own residents. **However, some OOS publics will give merit scholarships to out-of-state students, **but they don’t give financial aid (exception: UVa). I know it’s confusing, but financial aid is different than merit scholarships. So, for you to get any financial help you’ll need to look for the best merit awards and get your stats up! :)

OK…

So…FIT and Mass Art (both OOS publics) won’t give you the FA you’ll need, but perhaps some scholarship money.

FITD - LA is private (I have a niece there). But, I don’t see if they give any aid at all. hmmm…anyone know?

For match/safeties, you may have to consider national universities (publics) that have that major, but are also generous with merit aid.

I think Marist, Pratt, and SUNYs Buffalo and Oneonta also have your major, but I don’t know how generous they are with merit money.
