I want to apply for good graduate school and pursue masters in International Relations. Ivy league is a top choice. Well a girl can dream. I'm 4 years out of college (Russia). My GPA is 3.0, but I have a good resume and recommendations. I know impressive personal statement does wonders in US. But unfortunately I've never read one that will guide me to success. I know, I'm in no position to ask, but can anyone show me good personal statement that got them to the good program in IR? Any, any tups appreciated, but it would be just releif to read it through, see structure, the logic, the wording.

Hi lepetitbateau , if you just type in google “personal statement samples” there are so many you can read from also there are articles that show you how to write a successful personal statement. If you need more help let me know

First of all, many of the good international relations master’s are not in the Ivy League. Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, George Washington, American, Chicago, Tufts, Syracuse, and Stanford all have great programs in international relations. Actually, there are only a few Ivy League schools in that top list - Yale, Harvard, Princeton, and Columbia.

There’s a great book called Graduate Admissions Essays: Write Your Way Into the Graduate School of Your Choice by Donald Asher. In the book he has many examples of successful personal statements to a variety of programs; he also has lots of very useful tips for writing a successful personal statement. I found it very useful for writing my own personal statement, and I’m in a top PhD program in my field (which happens to be an Ivy as well, although that’s not necessarily an indicator of quality).
