Middlebury WUSTL Georgetown; selectivity, quality of academics, possibilities for graduate schools. many thanks. Econ PoliSCi languages

definitely go with gtown, esp. for polisci and languages

I am hesitating between Georgetown and Midd. I heard Midd is slightly more selective from various sources.

I live in Vermont, and so I'm pretty familiar with Middlebury. Its an awesome school, but the town is very boring. Actually all of Vermont is boring. Nothing beats being in DC, especially for a polysci major. I would say in terms of selectivity they are extremely similar. Gtown is stronger in polysci, international relations, basically all the social sciences, and languages. Middlebury is better with English, literature, journalism, and anything having to do with writing.

Selectivity:

Middlebury
WUSTL
Georgetown

But for what you are looking at Georgetown

I'd recommend Georgetown University.

If this helps you on the selectivity, I was rejected from Georgetown's School of Foreign Service and accepted at Harvard.

Georgetown. Hands down.

Georgetown probably has the best reputation, and def. the best location as far as opportunities for jobs/internships, etc, in poli-sci & econ fields. Also, when i visited Midd last summer, i found it to be one of the stuffier, snobbier seeming schools - which is just my $.02. Also, Midd is in the middle of nowhere. I think Georgetown's your best options, but congrats on the great acceptances!

For languages, you cannot beat Middlebury. Period. The CIA doesn't send their operatives to Georgetown every year (even though that would be most convenient)--they send them to Middlebury. Look into it...

I am going to visit again next week. On a different note, I am the outdoorsy type. They have great facilities; even a ski area! For the moment, it's Midd.

middlebury
wustl
gtown
a mon avis.

That's a good point about languages @ Midd. Guess it depends on what you're most interested in.

But Georgetown also has the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, practically an entire school devoted to the study of languages. You can't really beat that.

And as for selectivity, I think I would rank them as: WUSTL, Georgetown, Middlebury. However, if one takes away WUSTL's inflated applicant pool (because of their excessive mailings), then it would probably be: Georgetown, WUSTL, Middlebury.

well i think that the environment also comes into play. which provides an atmosphere that is most condusive for you? You will go the farthest with the place that "fits" you best... and i apologize for bringing the cliched there's a "fit" for evryone jinx... but good luck all the same

Those are 3 incredibly different schools. Decide if you want to attend a small LAC or a mid-sized research institution first, and then your decision will be clearer.

^Georgetown is the best one out of those, thats all ill say

Georgetown. Environment, offerings of the FLL, and research opportunities cannot be beat!
