Please Tell Me What You All Think!

Hey guys, my name is Zach and I'm new here. I live in Florida, and I am applying to the University of Florida, U of Central Florida, Florida State U, and U of Miami (not worried about UCF and FSU) in-state and U of Michigan Ann Arbor, University of Southern California, Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech out of state.

Here's my story:

After having mono and missing a month of school sophomore year I received a C in honors chemistry which knocked me out of the top ten percent of my class and now (senior year) I am literally in the 10.1 percent of my class (53/523).
My GPA is alright, unweighted it's a 3.7
I have a 2050 on the SATs (R: 660, M: 680, W: 710)
32 on the ACTs (my ACT scores are clearly much better...)
My senior class load is Honors World Wars, AP Literature, AP American Govt, AP Macroeconomics, AP Calculus AB, Leadership, and AP Physics

For my extra-curriculars, I have been the freshman and junior class president and in my schools Student Government Association for all four years, captain of the volleyball team freshman and sophomore year, and I am on the varsity team this senior year, I have participated in an organization known as Top Soccer for the past four years, where I help mentally challenged children learn to play soccer, and I have been playing the piano, bass, and guitar for over 10 years.

I am planning on majoring in Computer Engineering (even though my extra-curriculars don't show it, I have been taking apart and building computers since I was 10 years old and I have an immense interest in them) and minoring in Music Performance (Piano).

What do you guys think my chances are for getting into the schools, and any advice that you have?
Thanks so much.

BUMP Can someone please chance me, it would really mean a lot and I will do my best to give a good chance back.

Hi Zach!

I believe college apps have a section where you can explain extenuating circumstances that have affected your academic record. This would probably excuse your C in chemistry.

Here are some admissions statistics for the University of Florida. Your ACT score is good, and honestly, your SAT scores aren’t much worse. You might want to try computing your GPA as computed by UF (probably your weighted GPA) for an assessment of your chances.

I think you have a pretty good shot, but of course, I’m not an admissions counselor so I wouldn’t know.

Thanks for the advice, I checked my transcript and I think my weighted GPA is a 4.5.

The statistics speak for themselves, then.

If you’re curious you might look at the average GPA and SAT ranges for those other schools you listed too.
