Plme

can you apply to plme under regular decision???
when i began to fill out the common app supplement, it gave the option of plme regular decision, but i thought it was only available early decision???
does picking one or another affect chances??

i would love to apply to plme, but i dont want it to be binding if i somehow get in

Apply RD then. It's definitely offered.

I don't think it will affect your chances if you do ED vs. RD. It's a slim shot any way you look at it. Sixty kids or something like that get accepted total? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. You have to be accepted into Brown before before they even look at your PLME stuff, and even then, there are a lot of kids that don't get it.

Good luck!

I think it's about a 4% acceptance rate.

I'm not sure it's accurate that you get accepted to Brown first before looking at PLME. As I recall, your ap is first sent to the doctors, who evaluate you for PLME. If they give you a thumbs up, then admissions looks at your file. If they give you a thumbs down, admissions then considers whether to accept you for regular admission.

I might be wrong on this, or it is possible that the process has changed.

But as to the original question -- yes, you can apply to PLME under regular decision.

My son applied RD and was accepted to PLME. For Fin Aid reasons, he could not apply ED.

That's an interesting way of doing things, with PLME going first before the undergrad adcoms. . . where did you get that info, fireandrain?

I have my sources.

It's actually the reverse. Your application is considered first for Brown undergrad. If you are accepted to Brown undergrad, your application is then considered by the PLME admissions committee. If you are considered for PLME, your application is read many more times, total, than if you just apply to Brown.
Also, PLME is definitely offered regular decision, in addition to early decision. If you don't want it to be binding, definitely apply RD.

From the PLME website:

"Candidates considered admissible by the College Admission Office are reviewed by the PLME Advisory Selection Board."
