Yes, UMass charges over $10,000 in fees, but the tuition is $1,714 (in state) so if you combine the two it’s not too bad. The tuition is set by the legislature and the fees are set by the university. Crazy, I know.

I’ve actually looked at all those Duke UNC scholarships, the Robertson and Morehead. Wow that people that got them sound so amazing. I think my child is great, but no one like those people. I think it would definitely be a stretch.

Cooper Union, I actually thought of a long time ago. It’s in NYC right. I somehow just wrote that off. They only do engineering and architecture if I remembered. Was it free tuition only? Room and board would be really high?

Auburn, I’ve actually looked into they sent us this crazy brochure. But I remember looking at their COA and scholarships, there is a still a decent amount left of tuition plus room and board. Esitmated was $39k, but only saw automatic scholarships around $7500. Some scholarships they would not name the amount. But required ACT was 34 S has 33 =(

Umass, same thing non-resident is $39k estimated. But their scholarship page is almost blank. Hmmm no idea what kind of merit aid/scholarships they offer.

moms2colleges - Always make everything sound so logical! Thats why Alabama has always been at or near top of my lists. I’ve looked up airfare. On good days we’re able to get it for less than $500 round trip. Just figuring out time during the summer I guess or in Fall.

ucbalumus - UAB is plausible. It fits or finances thats for sure. Someone was telling me its less of a party school. That might fit our son better. No emphasis on sports. My son knows nothing about football. He knows too much about D&D.

After applying the full tuition scholarship at Cooper Union, the list price [cost of attendance](Cost of Attendance | The Cooper Union) is $18,625 for an engineering student living in the dormitories. Cooper Union offers only engineering, architecture, and art as majors (other subjects, like math, science, humanities, and social studies, are offered for support or breadth purposes).

University of Massachusetts, Amherst has a list price [cost of attendance](<a href=“Financial Aid : UMass Amherst”>Financial Aid : UMass Amherst) of $34,912.

For what it’s worth, UMass is looking to increase its OOS enrollment. My guess, and it’s only a guess, is it will be hard to get enough merit aid to get it much below $30K because at some point, they might as well just admit another in-state student if the cost gets too low.
