I visted SU during my S’s accepted students visit last April. The merit aid they offered was very generous. He ended up going to a smaller school, but Syracuse (specifically the IR major) was right near the top of his list because of the affiliation with the Maxwell School.

I was very impressed with the way they operated…almost like clock-work. I attributed this to the University’s running of the Carrier Dome and all the logistics that goes along with it. The campus and dorms were well maintained. It does snow quite a bit there, but the students make the best of it…the old ‘Life gives you lemon, make lemonade’ attitude. Don’t make your decision until you visit both schools.

If you’re invited, I would strongly recommend participating in the [Annual Citizenship Education Conference, sponsored by the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs](http://sunews.syr.edu/story_details.cfm?id=1994) and don’t take it lightly. It’s an intense competition that you should participate in even if you don’t ultimately decide to go to SU. If you don’t get ‘juiced up’ for Syracuse after participating in the conference, then the school is probably not for you.

Along with the potential scholarship, participation in the conference gets you an invitation to a special program that has access to the best dorms on campus…my S loved them.

Call/email Professor Coplin and review the requirements for the conference. He’s a passionate/wise educator of the highest caliber. Coplin is one of the most popular professors on campus. Don’t mistake that for easy…you WILL work your butt-off in his class and love every minute of it. If I was still an undergrad, I would welcome an opportunity to take his classes and have him as an advisor.
