has anyone else downloaded the yale podcasts? they're really good and give a taste of what some yale professors are like

I've downloaded some of them. I listened to a really interesting one called "The Golden Age of Spain" or something like that.

Ah yes. I hope they put one by Akhil Amar soon. Then everybody would come to Yale :)

for anyone interested in current events, i'd recommend "Democracy and the Market" (Richard C. Levin, economics), "Is Reconciliation between Muslims and Christians Possible" (Miroslav Volf, religious studies), and "The Bush Administration: Its Past and Future" (John Gaddis, history)

just being able to hear firsthand the absolute brilliance of the Yale faculty is weighing heavily on my decision where to matriculate (I'm already in at Harvard, and I'm definitely swaying towards Yale, if i get accepted, at this point...)

engels101, if you want the perspective of a student who got into both (as well as most of the "schools"), send me a beep. Harvard is an amazing place, and our rivalry not withstanding, it is a great institution of learning in the United States and the world. That said, there is a reason Yale is special. Mr. Burns said it best:

"Harvard might be first in academics and rowing, but [Yale] we'll always be the best in gentlemenly life (or womenly life)." There's something about Yale...
that Harvard can't match.

So, send me a beep, keep on hearing Gaddis and Levin. Also, listen to the Golden Age of Spain one.

Also, a great link for more Yale audio:

Which is the DeVane Lecture Course for 2001, in which democracy was discussed by 15 of Yale's greatest professors.

Ferny.

Was anyone able to find the Harold Bloom lecture anywhere? The Yale website says it's part of the podcast but I can't find it :(

But I agree, the lectures are brilliant.

I never knew about the Yale podcasts, thanks! Which ones do you recommend? All of them seem so interesting, ahhh.
