Political climate?

What would you say the political climate is like at Davidson?

It is what you make of it. Some students prefer to stay away from politics, but many people get involved. There are very actives student organizations, the two main ones being the Davidson Democrats and the College Republicans. The Dems seem to be the more active of the two on campus, though. They actually planned a trip for students to volunteer at the DNC! There is also a newly formed Libertarian group that seems to be pretty strong.

The political climate is especially charged now due to the election next month. Everyone seems to be getting into it. Up until registration ended on Monday, many different orgs were going around making sure everyone was registered. It didn’t matter your affiliation, they just wanted to make sure you were doing your part as an American citizen. Last week the college held a live screening of the debate on a large screen in the union so that everyone had the opportunity to watch it. Also, over parents weekend this year there will be a debate held between the Democrats and the Republicans.

When it comes to affiliation, the campus seems to be pretty equally split between conservatives and liberals. There were always be people that will agree with you and ones who will debate with you if you wish to. The great thing is people are smart and therefore the debates are intelligent and well backed up. In the end, though, it seems to be rare for people to flat out dislike another person for their political views. They agree to disagree.

So, if politics is something that you wish to be present where you go to college, I believe you’d be happy with Davidson. I have plenty of friends who could care less and want to stay out of it, and that is very much possible as well. =)
