Political science major?

I was recently admitted to Baylor and had plans to get a bachelor in Political science, with aspirations to become a lobbyist. However I was doing some research and found some very discouraging information on the internet saying it was a "worthless" major and would lead to an elusive and low paying job.

On another note I have some very good "connections" in the political world. Im am very close to a man who is a lobbyist for two large companies who graduated from Baylor, he was also a congressman earlier in his life. He is also very good friends with several high ranking men in politics, also Baylor Alumni.*

I feel by knowing these men that it will be much easier for me to find a job in politics or as a lobbyist. Also I may attend law school, I haven't decided if I should attend yet.*

Anyways does anybody think by knowing somebody whose already in "the game" it will make my chances of finding a decent job easier?

It sould definately make it easier to find a decent job. Contacts always help. I would think that you would probably need some connections other than one though.

I am a little concerned about your desire to become a lobbiest. thats usually not something that people would study for as much as it is something that they fall into. It seems almost “wrong” for a high school senior to desire such a job.

As far as poli science for a major, it’s a great major, but in the same sense that psychology or sociology are. If you have a major like that the only thing you will truely be qualified for is to go to grad school. Or to get a job as an assistant manager at McDonalds like I did. Of course you can do that without college.

You should be able to get into law school with that major though.
