Politics/Economics AND Medicine?

Hi,

So basically, here's my dilemma:

Currently, I'm actively involved in the politics/economics sector of high school (and I really enjoy it). I campaign for officials, work in political offices, participate in all the political groups in school (with lots of leadership positions), and even started a semi-political business and newspaper.

HOWEVER, I've always wanted to be an surgeon (MD/MPH), specializing in either the eye or the lung (if that is a specialty). I want to work at an organization like the W.H.O, a clinic, or maybe in the medical sector of government (think Bill Frist). Currently, just for fun, I volunteer at the local hospital. It's actually pretty fun, and I've always wanted to do the things the doctors do (maybe an internal med. would be better? iono). Also, I took a Human Anatomy class outside of school and it was surprisingly fun.

Questions:

1) What would be the right ECs to do during High School and College? Should I concentrate on Politics in High School and Medicine in college? I really can only focus in on one during each "step" of the way.

2) Is it possible to major it "Politics/Economics" (or something similar) AND do premed at the same time?

Thanks!

1A.) HS EC's won't matter in the long run, so do whatever you want.

1B.) I don't know why you can't do both at once, but if you really insist that you can't, then focus on medicine in college and economics in medical school. It's my opinion that resume-wise you'll be fine but you'll be very behind in the things you actually need to learn.

2.) Yes.
